college. Here his duties have been heavy, but he has performed them to the advantage of the college and with great credit to himself. He has charge also of the station mailing list and distributes to the farmers of the State about 75,000 bulletins every year on subjects pertaining to agriculture. By a special act of the legislature the office of police magistrate was created and to this he was unanimously appointed by the board of trustees. Mr. Hook has been twice married, first on September 21, 1865, to Miss Susan M. Pou, who died January 27, 1891, and the second time to Miss R. E. Miller. He has five living children, all by his first wife. One son, John H. Hook, a graduate of Clemson college, is inspector in the navy department on the coast of Florida. The other children are: William N., H. Lula, Sue M., and Julia A. William N. is a student of Clemson college, in the class of 1899. Miss H. Lula is a teacher in Rockhill college.
