WAR was declared with Great Britain on June 18, 1812.
American vessels were allowed to trade with Europe as usual, although not with Great Britain.
Many of them carried supplies which were directed to ssion of the Attorney General
Bryant and Sturgis, M. S., Vol. 1811, p. 122. and the Secretary of the Treasury.
Congress permitted this trade until the crops of 1812 had been marketed.
