y turn the scales. Among the contributions recently arrived from Europe should be mentioned one that is of the highest interest. It is an original pen and ink sketch, by Victor Huge of the house occupied by Franklin, in Passy, near Paris, in 1778. The sketch is accompanied by an autograph letter from the donor, or which the following is a literal translation: "In the year 1836 I happened to be at Passy, at the house of Mr Raynard, the author of the tragedy of the 'Knight Templars.' Hair as Franklin used to do, and you look like him.' He answered me, smiling, 'This may be on account of the neighborhood, ' and he pointed out to me a house which could be seen from his garden. 'It is there,' said he to me, 'that Franklin lived in 1778.' I sketched that house, which is now pulled down. This is this drawing.
