A Horrid tragedy. --A Negro Girl Murders Her Three Children and then Attempts Suicide. --The Nashville (Tenn.) Banner, of the 15th instant, has the following particulars of a tragedy which occurred in that city: On yesterday a servant killed her three children, and then tried to take her own life. A few minutes before the horrid tragedy, a fellow servant, observing her leaving her room, where she had been confined by an attack of brain fever, prevailed on her to return, which she reluctantly did; but in a short time she was seen lying at the head of the stairs, the blood streaming from her neck, and upon entering the room, her three children were discovered with their throats cut. Her conduct the evening before had been so strange as to excite the attention of the family, but there was no suspicion that her wandering of intellect would take so cruel a direction. She seems to have known that the servants and family had an eye upon her, for she planned the deed with stealth

Railroad Accident. --A Miraculous Escape.--The Nashville Union and American, of the 15th inst., records the following: A very serious accident occurred at the railroad bridge in this city yesterday about noon. A freight train on the Louisville and Nashville Railroad was in the act of crossing the bridge, the fireman being in charge of the train, (the engineer being temporarily absent, but intending to take his place on the other side of the river,) and being in the act of firing up, did not notice that the "draw" was not in its place until the engine was almost at the opening and too late to check its progress.--The engine went over and is now at the bottom of the river. The tender was left hanging over the end of the bridge, the train having stopped. The fireman miraculously escaped with his life, but was badly bruised, having gone down with the engine, and having to swim out. The tender was raised up late in the evening, and trains are again passing over the bridge.
