Virtual STEM Trivia Contest

What is the Virtual STEM Trivia Contest?

Join us for RIT/NTID's epic virtual STEM trivia event! Open to deaf and hard-of-hearing students in grades 9-12 across the U.S., this one-day contest lets you showcase your knowledge in STEM, current events and pop culture. Sign up solo and compete against other deaf and hard-of-hearing peers nationwide for a chance to win a cash prize. Join the fun and see if you have what it takes to be the STEM trivia champion!

How does the trivia contest work?

  1. Virtual STEM Trivia contest is hosted on Kahoot, a game-based learning platform, for interactive questions.
  2. The contest has two rounds: an open first round and a final round for the top five scorers.
  3. Players join via kahoot.it or the Kahoot! app on their devices, using their registered names.
  4. Players answer questions on their device as they appear on the shared screen; the faster correct answers earn more points.
  5. No penalties for wrong answers.
  6. The top three highest scorers in the final round win a cash prize!

To register for a Virtual STEM trivia event, register at the button below!

The NTID Outreach team will send you an email confirming your registration with the date and time of the STEM Trivia Contest. Prior to the start of the event, our team will email a Zoom link and a Kahoot pin, so competitors may join and prepare for the event before it begins.

Teachers who want to register their class as a group registration may send an email to ntidoutreach@rit.edu with a request to register for the event.

FAQs

Kahoot is an online game-based learning platform which we will use to host the virtual trivia event. Students will enter the game with the URL we provide upon registration.

A webcam is not required to participate in the Virtual STEM Trivia Contest.

You will need a web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Internet Explorer) to connect to the Kahoot! Play It platform OR by using the Kahoot! App on a smartphone or tablet. You are not limited to using a computer or laptop!

You do not need an account to play. Our team will provide all competitors with a Kahoot! pin prior to the start of an event.

The questions will be based on the topics of science, technology, engineering, and math, as well as some pop culture questions.

Deaf and hard-of-hearing students who are in 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade as of fall 2024 may participate!
