New Mac mini leaked via string – with five USB-C ports
It seems certain that there will soon be a redesigned Mac mini. Now Apple has revealed it itself – in its own code.

Rumors have been circulating for weeks that there will soon be a Mac mini with a revised design. Now Apple itself seems to have confirmed this: in the form of a new string in the company's software. This is reported by @aaronp613, who specializes in Apple leaks, on X. He did not disclose the exact location of the leak, but the information appears to have surfaced as part of yesterday's operating system updates.
Four new Macs expected this fall
The exact name is "Apple silicon Mac mini (5 port)". This apparently means that it is a new compact computer with five USB-C ports. This was also previously predicted by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman – Apple is to stop using USB-A ports on the Mac mini in future. The new machine is to be more compact, but possibly slightly taller than the current form factor. Apple has ultimately left this unchanged since 2010, always supplementing it with new inner workings.
The new version should now be more reminiscent of an Apple TV box than, for example, the Mac Studio, which in turn looks like a Mac mini that has been extended upwards. It is currently expected that Apple could present new Macs in October and then launch them on the market in November. At least four new Macs are expected. In addition to the Mac mini, which will probably be available as M4 and M4 Pro, these could be new MacBook Pro models with M4 and possibly an iMac M4.
M3 generation will be skipped
Apple unveiled the last Mac mini in January 2023, which was equipped with M2 and M2 Pro SoCs. Apple may want to skip the M3 generation. At the moment, only the iPad Pro with M4 SoC – is available, which is unusual for the company. It is unclear what other ports the new Mac mini will have. At the moment, the computers have four Thunderbolt 4 ports with USB-C, two USB-A ports, HDMI and Gigabit Ethernet plus a headphone socket. It remains to be seen whether any of this will be dropped.
The Mac mini is traditionally a machine that is delivered without a keyboard, mouse or trackpad. However, it is the cheapest Mac in Apple's range. You currently pay 700 euros for the entry-level model from the manufacturer, but you can get the machine cheaper in stores (ab 599 €).
