Destination Inspiration - Terminal 4 with Anne

Hello fellow travellers, Anne here to welcome you to Terminal 4
with January's Travel Bag to play with:

Product:  Sprays
Technique:  Stamping
Colour: Blue and Brown
Substrate:  Wood or Chipboard

Here's what I created:
I have to be honest, I am not a big fan of brown so I challenged myself to use as much brown as possible in my creation.  I wasn't so happy with my nearly all brown tag, so I mounted it onto a canvas that I made a while back....
I started by sticking down some Tim Holtz burlap to a piece of Ranger Manila card.  I stencilled over this with Tim's Burlap stencil using Walnut Stain Distress Spray Stain.  I love the look of this technique and am always amazed that the stain does not 'seep' under the stencil!
I used my Tim Holtz Tag and Bookplate die to cut the tag.  I then inked around the edges of the tag with Walnut Stain Distress ink.
I found some chipboard cogs in my stash and I used Walnut Stain Distress Spray Stain to colour the cogs.  I 'roughed' them up a bit with a piece of sandpaper to give them some texture and sprayed two more coats of the stain to give a good cover.
For my 'blue' element I added some DecoArt Cobalt Teal Hue paint in a random fashion over the tag.  To give a more realistic look of rust to the cogs I gave them a spray of Rusty Hinge Distress Spray Stain.  To add a 'patina' look to the cogs I mixed some Peacock Feathers Distress Spray Stain with some Prima Artisan Powder in Trianon Patina and dabbed this here and there on the cogs.
I mounted the cogs onto the tag, added one of Tim's Paper Dolls (I inked around the edge to take away the whiteness) and added a sentiment stamped from one of Alison Bomber's sentiment stamp range.  I only used part of the sentiment.- that's the beauty of Alison's stamps...
I dyed some seam binding with Peacock Feathers Distress Spray Stain, crinkled it up and added it to the top of the tag.  As I mentioned above, I thought the brown was a bit overpowering and I added the tag to a blue crackled canvas that I made a while back.  I think it gives a bit of a 'lift' to the tag!  I cannot remember what I used to create the canvas but it would most certainly be Weathered Wood Crackle and Broken China Distress Paint on top.

Since I am the last one up on Destination Inspiration for January, here is a recap of the other wonderfully inspiring DI posts for the month:

Destination Inspiration - Arriving at Terminal #1

Hello Fellow Travellers

Anne here, to welcome you to the first of our Destination Inspiration posts for November!  Let's have a look what is in the travel bag for this month:

Product  :  Distress Oxide
Technique  :  Faded Layers
Colour  :  Blue,/Teal/Green
Substrate  :  White Card

Hmm, quite the bag this month!  I am not a great fan of Alcohol Inks but I rose to the challenge, I hope - and I hope you will be inspired to have a go too!  I was definitely outside my comfort zone, but I actually enjoyed the process in the end!
I made two tags which I will use to decorate Christmas presents - Christmas is so worryingly close!
I chose Pesto (Green), Patina (Teal), Sailboat Blue and Stonewashed (Blue) and applied these with a Blender tool onto Alcohol Ink card (white card element).
Next up I took a Tim Holtz stencil and carefully applied Alcohol Ink Blending Solution, using a blending tool, this needs a gentle touch.  You will see various blue and green tones in my photos, because I did several before I was happy with the result!
Here is a close up of one of my backgrounds that I felt happy with!
I cut my card into tags with Tim's Thinlit tag die.
I mounted my two favourite backgrounds onto toning card and added a Remnant Rub to each.
I needed to use Distress Oxide and I took some watercolour card and Abandoned Coral Distress Oxiide and applied this to both sides of the card.
I die cut my poinsettias, leaves and pine cones to decorate my tags.
Finally, here is a close up of the decoration on the blueish tag, I added some Baby's Breath and gauze, the poinsettia centres are decorated with Tim's new Idea-ology stamens.

I hope you will join us in our latest challenge Mini Marvels, which you can find HERE.  Thanks too, for stopping by.

Hugs, Anne  xx

Mini Marvels!

Hello and welcome to our November Challenge!  Anne here, I have the pleasure of hosting this month's challenge which is:

Mini Marvels

This month's challenge is to create something in miniature - it could be a little book, a tiny scene, a small canvas, a wall hanging or even a box.  It MUST be 4" or less in size and be created in your vintage, shabby, mixed media, art journalling, industrial, timeworn or steampunk style.

Our wonderful Sponsor this month is Southern Ridge Trading Company who will be offering one randomly chosen winner a $50 varied selection of chipboard and wood veneer laser cut embellishments!

So, let's take a look at what our Creative Guides have created for your inspiration.

Anne

I love making 3D projects and I challenged myself to create a  miniature 3D project using one dimensional dies by Tim Holtz, along with a Christmas bauble and a plastic tub - and there is a special little twist too!  If you would like to see more please pop over to my blog - Redanne.

If you mention miniatures to me, my mind goes to dollshouses, so it was pretty inevitable that I would end up with some little houses as my inspiration offering for Anne's wonderful Mini Marvels theme.  The tallest is exactly four inches high, and the smallest is only half that!  Do come and see all the tiny details over at Words and Pictures.

Nikki
Mini Book by Nikki Acton featuring PaperArtsy quote stamps by Alison Bomber

Having recently been to Seth Apter's 'Book of Moments' workshop I was inspired to create a mini book for our Mini Marvels challenge.  My 3 inch square book contains Alison Bomber quote stamps and definitely has that handmade, vintage feel.  For all the details and the inside pages, please pop over to my blog - Addicted to Art.

Julia

For my Mini Marvel - I created a little reindeer stall for one of  Santa's reindeer - who is standing ready for Christmas Eve when Santa needs him to help pull his sleigh around the world!  I used a new Sizzix Heart Shrine Die along with some Idea-ology supplies, rusty stars and aged my stall with some rust paste.  Please come see how I put this together over at my blog - Create with Me!

Jennie

Whilst travelling home from Switzerland last week I had a Gin and Tonic on the plane (as you do.....) and as soon as I saw the little miniature Bombay Sapphire Gin bottle I knew I wanted to alter it for Anne's challenge.  If you would like to see the details then please hop on over to my blog.  Cheers!

Autumn

Each year we try to spice up the holiday fun in our home by giving the kids 12 small gifts each day leading up to Christmas.  I used this challenge as a way to get started on my presents and made little 4x4" matchbook gift card holders.  Each one is unique so that each child feels special.  I hope you will hop on over to SewPaperPaint for the tutorial and close ups.

S@ndy

With Christmas fast approaching we will all be in need of gift tags.  This challenge was the perfect prompt to get me going.  Please stop by my blog here to see more details and photos.

Amanda

For Anne's Challenge I have had a great time using paints, texture, stamps and stencils to create 2 pieces of 'Mini Art' with a grungy feel.  There are more details on my blog if you fancy stopping by.

Brenda
I'm having a complete reorganisation of my art and craft stuff and came across these little pocket watches by Wendy Vecchi. They have been tucked away for eons but appeared miraculously just at the right time to enter Anne's Mini Marvels challenge and of course with Christmas on the way I thought they'd make fabulous little tags for men pressies. There's a few more photos over at Bumblebees and Butterflies if you can make it.

Well I hope that you have been inspired by all the wonderful examples by the Creative Guides above.  We are looking forward to seeing your 'Mini Marvels' this month!  You could be selected as one of our Pinworthies, and of course, one lucky randomly drawn winner will receive a wonderful package of goodies from Southern Ridge Trading Company!  Good Luck everyone!

Destination Inspiration - Arriving at Terminal 1

Hello, Anne here to welcome you to Destination Inspiration #1 for October!  The contents of the travel bag for this month are:

Product - Crackle Paint/Paste
Technique - Die Cutting
Colour - Any Fall colours you fancy
Substrate - Corrugated Card

Now I will admit, up front, I read the details wrong and went on to create my project, using the corrugated card for my die cutting.... oops, not a great start, but with no time to create another project I hope you will forgive my misdemeanor... I created a little wall hanging.
Since Calico Craft Parts are our Sponsors for this month I wanted to use one of their Printers Trays to create my project.
I die cut two ATCs from chipboard and the Steering Wheel by Seth Apter (a gift from a lovely friend) from corrugated card.
I painted the printers tray in Paper Artsy Fresco Finish Mahogany Chalk Acrylic Paint (part of Seth Apter's Limited Edition range).  I painted the little frame with Buff and then added a good coat of DecoArt Weathered Wood Crackle Paint.
Once the Crackle Paint was dry I applied a coat of the Mahogany to create these lovely crackles.
To create my autumnal colours for the base of the ATCs I used Seth Apter's monoprint technique, you can see the layers as I built them up.  It doesn't look very pretty to start with but if you persevere and keep adding layers until you like it, it really does work and it also creates some lovely texture.

To create the layers, you need two pieces of cardstock.  Apply paint to your first piece of card, in this case I used Paper Artsy Midnight Fresco paint, I added Key Lime Fresco paint to the second piece and quickly laid the second piece of card over the first, pressed lightly (as you would with a Gelli Plate).  I like to start with a dark and light colour for the first layers but you can start with light colours, or any colours that takes your fancy.

You can see from the above, that layer 2 is still quite dark, I used Mahogany and Green Patina before moving on to more autumnal tones - Smoked Paprika, Terracota and some Buff to tone it all down.
I chose the parts of the finished cardstock that I liked the best and die cut two ATCs.  These were attached to the chipboard ATCs and I used a brown marker to go all around the edges.
To colour the steering wheel parts I used Imagination Crafts Rusty Patina Texture Paste in the rusty colour and also the turquoise colour.
I assembled the die cuts on top of the ATCs and added some Prima hardware to the centres just to add some interest.  I hope you can see a little of the turquoise patina colour on top of the brown.

To finish off I added some of Tim Holtz's chit chat stickers.

I hope you enjoyed your visit to Terminal 1 and I also hope you will join in Jennie's wonderful challenge this month - Crazy for Autumn Colour which you can find HERE.

Take care and enjoy your crafting!  Hugs, Anne xx

Destination Inspiration: Arriving at Terminal 3

Hello everyone, Anne here, welcoming you to Terminal 3 of April's Destination Inspiration.

We have been using these items in our travel bag this month:
Product - Distress Ink / Paint
Technique - Stencil Mono-printing
Colour - Green
Substrate - MDF

When I planned to use Wendy Vecchi's Art Parts, I mistakenly thought they were MDF, but I think they are close enough as I don't have any other MDF in my stash....  I went for a clean and simple design with my project.

I wanted to use one of my favourite Wendy Vecchi stamps - rules to live by.
The base is from Wendy's Artful Shrines Art Parts, I just used the inside piece and coated it with some white Gesso.
I gave the base a good coat of Distress Paint in Bundled Sage.
For the mono-printing element I used Tim Holtz's Honeycomb stencil and Fossilized Amber Distress Ink which I hoped would give a nice contrast.
I applied the ink directly to one side of the stencil, spritzed it well with water, laid it on top of the base, pressed all over with a piece of paper towel and dried it with my heat tool.  Heat setting it really brings it to life.  I love that this technique does not give a 'perfect' print but I am always amazed at how well it works (apologies for the shadow, I was crafting at night time)!
Once dry I stamped with this lovely Wendy stamp, I just love that some of the words are bold.  I keep this stamp on show in my craft room for encouragement!
I did not do a step by step of the flower but these are Wendy Vecchi Art Parts too.  I painted the large flower with Scattered Straw Distress Paint and the smaller one with Spiced Marmalade Distress Paint.  The leaves and stalk were painted with Pine Needles Distress Paint.  I gave each piece two coats and then overstamped with Hero Arts Newspaper Background stamp.  I added the little copper 'nut' (Prima I think) after painting the word 'Art' with Pine Needles DP.
Finally, the whole piece was edged with Pine Needles Distress Ink.

Like I said, clean and simple but it shows how well the mono-printing technique works, I hope that our projects this month have encouraged you to try the technique, if you have not done so already!

Our current challenge 'The Magic of Three', hosted by the lovely Annie is still running, we hope you will join in HERE.

Thanks so much for visiting, please come back next Monday for some more inspiration using our April Travel Bag!

Hugs,  Anne xx
