| … like when Hanna-Barbera relocated Josie & the Pussycats to outer space, is always good for kicking things up a notch. Movie director Chris Columbus is credited with having created Galaxy High School, but it seems like a fairly obvious concept, given how well known these facts are, about how TV on Saturday morning works.
Be that as it may, Galaxy High School was produced as a half-hour show by TMS Entertainment, which also adapted several Marvel properties, such as Fantastic Four, Iron Man and Spider-Man into Saturday morning TV. The show debuted on CBS Saturday, September 13, 1986. The series began when a pair of Earth teens, Doyle Cleverlobe and Aimee Brightower, were accepted into Galaxy High, located on the asteroid Flutor, which drifted through interstellar space. Doyle was a jock, popular back on Earth because he was a sports star, while Aimee was shy and studious, the type of girl who got good grades but didn't get asked out much. In their new surroundings, their alien fellow students found Doyle irritating, but thought Aimee was pretty cool. The alien students included Gilda Gossip, who had several mouths, the better to yak about the others. Booey Bubblehead had a head that looked just like a bubble, and seemed equally empty. Milo deVenus had six arms. The teachers also belonged to diverse species. For example, Biddy McBrain had what looked like a light bulb for a head, and Coach Frogface liked to eat flies. Professor Icenstein kept his classroom cold, for fear of melting. Doyle's voice was provided by Hal Rayle (Hammerhead in Darkwing Duck) and Aimee's by Susan Blu (Arcee in Transformers). McBrain was Pat Carroll (Ursula in The Little Mermaid_. Frogface was Pat Fraley (Gwumpki in Quack Pack). Galaxy High School was not a raging success. In fact, the first season had only 13 episodes, and it wasn't renewed for a second. Nor did it become a merchandising bonanza.
