DIY How to cut a T-shirt – Olympics Edition
For you girls who have ever picked up any swag T-shirts over the years, you know that it’s pretty rare that the shirt actually fits. Size small? Yeah, right. More like Large and XL! Along the same lines, how many times have you seen a shirt in the store and wish there was a girl version of it? Well, that’s how I felt about this throwback Olympics tee. And instead of wearing it as-is, I decided to girlify it. If you have a pair of scissors, give it a try!
The best thing about cutting T-shirts is that there is no need to finish the hem since the fabric won’t fray or anything. Also, it’s always good to have a reference tee to use for sizing or length. And remember, it’s always easier to take away than to add. So if you’re not sure, just cut a little at a time. Here’s the original shirt.
I used a shirt that I already owned to determine how wide I wanted the neck. From there, I cut two slits on the side of the neck as a starting point.
Then I start cutting around the original neckline. I made the front lower and kept the back close to the original line.
Finally, I cut the bottom hem. I wanted to make the sides higher up and the front and back slightly curved (sort of like a baseball tee). I lined up all the edges and folded the tee in half and then cut a half “U” shape.
And here’s the result!

I love this. It is so cute. Do you know how to cut up a baseball t shirt ? I want to make it look cute but I’m not sure how to cut it

Hm, just depends what style you want. I could easily see making a baseball shirt sleeveless. What kind of style are you looking for?

I thought it was going to be hard because it’s a guys baseball t shirt. But I was just looking for anything girly. Off the shoulder or anything as long as it doesn’t look like a guys shirt:)

I mean, there’s definitely a lot of options. You definitely want to cut off the hem around the neck and then it’s up to you for the sleeves. If you cut straight, you could make it sleeveless and if you cut a little more curved and inwards towards the center, you would get more of a halter tank. Step 2 or 3 of this might be a good start.

Thank you so much☺️

How much did you take off the bottom?

Just enough where the shirt was around my waist. It depends how short you want it!
