Free Double Feature: Arsenic & Old Lace plus Double indemnity
Double feature at the Strand
Arsenic and Old Lace
Double Indemnity
Saturday, August 20 at 7 PM
Sponsored by John and Lisa Martin
Cary Grant stars as the one sane member of a charmingly lunatic family in director Frank Capra's classic comedy. When Mortimer Brewster (Grant) brings his new bride to meet his two kindly aunts, he discovers that, among many other acts of charity, the two genteel ladies help lonely old men die happy ... by feeding them a wonderful meal before poisoning them. Now, Mortimer desperately wants to protect the two serial murderers he loves, stop them from killing anyone else and keep his bride from discovering how deranged his family really is.
After Arsenic and Old Lace we will have hot dogs in the lobby followed by
Double Indemnity
In Billy Wilder's seminal film noir Fred MacMurray plays an insurance salesman who is seduced by a conniving woman (Barbara Stanwyck) into a scheme to
murder her husband and make it look like an accident in order to collect
his impressive life insurance policy. Dark and twisty with snappy dialogue. Based on a scandalous novel by James M. Cain, the screenplay was written by Wilder and Raymond Chandler.
Don't miss these two great classic films both released in 1944.

Stand with Ukraine through Film exists to raise funds to
assist Ukrainians in and near Ukraine who are suffering as a result of
the Russian invasion of their homeland.
To simplify the flow of funds from ticket buyers and others, the project team created the Ukraine Relief Fund under the fiscal sponsorship of Human & Civil Rights Organizations of America, Inc. the leading workplace fundraising program in the country. HCROA
handles millions of dollars annually, donated by individuals and
transferred to benefiting charities. It undergoes annual financial
audits.
HCROA is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Donations are deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Donations – whether from ticket sales or private gifts – will go to
international humanitarian organizations. Among those expected to
receive the bulk of the donations will be World Central Kitchen and the
International Organization on Migration. A number of smaller tax-exempt
groups will also receive support, reflecting the recommendations of
Ukrainians.
