1. According to source [1], Saint Pierre and Miquelon originally had three communes: Île-aux-Chiens, Miquelon-Langlade, and Saint-Pierre. In 1931, the name of the first was changed to l'Île-aux-Marins. In 1945, it merged with Saint-Pierre. This island had a population of 594 in 1897, 75 in 1962, but it has been uninhabited since 1963.
