Robert Silverberg and Karen Haber launched annual anthologies for both science fiction and fantasy in 2002 for ibooks in mass market paperback. The introduction to the first SF volume notes the two ongoing SF annuals (by Dozois and Hartwell/Cramer) but suggests that the wealth of the field allowed room for a third. Silverberg & Haber's fantasy volume followed Hartwell/Cramer's first fantasy volume by a year. (These books followed Harrison/Aldiss' policy in being titled for the year of publication of the stories, not the books -- in contrast to Wollheim's series.)

Silverberg stepped away after two years, with Jonathan Strahan, heretofore editor of two anthologies of Australian science fiction and fantasy and co-editor of the Australian 'zine Eidolon, joining Haber as co-editor. No fantasy volume appeared for 2003. Volumes for 2005 were announced, but did not appear, as the publisher filed for bankruptcy following ibooks founder Byron Preiss' death. Strahan subsequently published SF and fantasy volumes for 2005 with Locus Press in 2006, then published his first combined SF and fantasy volume in 2007.
