A Unique View of Java
I don't usually do this, but the writer of this email asked not to be identified. I thought it represented an interesting perspective on Sun's cross-platform Java story, circa Fall 1997. DWA Unique View of Java
"Sun has yet to release a 1.1 JDK for Macintosh, we're almost seven months behind at the moment and not even an alpha release. Other platforms are now starting to test 1.2, still nothing on the Mac. They even use the Macintosh as an example of the cross-platformness of Java. How ridiculous.
"Netscape claims a 1.1 VM in their browsers, yet almost nothing written in 1.1 will actually run in Netscape's browser.
"Microsoft releases an almost 100% compliant VM, it is missing two classes which nobody uses at the moment, and is being harrassed by the JavaLobby who don't acknowledge any of the above."
