My Fall TV Line~Up for 2012

Posted on May 28, 2012 with No comments

May 28, 2012

Summer hasn't officially started but already TV connoisseurs, like myself, know of almost all the programs set to air in th fall.   Networks announce their fall line ups in the month of April, and I'm always on the hunt for announcements. I already watch a multitude of shows, thank goodness for DVRs. By the looks of the line up that number will rise.  I just may have to get the new Hopper from Dish Network so I can record up to six shows at a time, because by the looks of it, I'm going to be watching a lot of TV.  I'm super excited about Arrow and Revolution, they look right up my alley.  The rest look just as interesting, but I am a bit undecided with 666 Park Avenue, we'll just have to see.  Now, CrossBones calls to the historian wannabe in me, just waiting until NBC posts a sneak peak to decide if it goes on my list of must sees.

Here is what my fall viewing euphoria looks like.  I broke it down by networks...

~ Arrow ~
Based on DC Comics' long-running Green Arrow
After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he's become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow - a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be - flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle - while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel's father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver's own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine.

The series stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, Colin Donnell as Tommy, Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance, David Ramsey as John Diggle, Willa Holland as Thea Queen, with Susanna Thompson as Moira Queen and Paul Blackthorne as Detective Quentin Lance.Based on characters appearing in comic books and graphic novels published by DC Comics, ARROW is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. ~ Beauty and The Beast ~

Detective Catherine Chandler is a smart, no-nonsense homicide detective. When she was a teenager, Catherine witnessed the murder of her mother at the hands of two gunmen. Catherine would have been killed too, but someone – or something – saved her. No one has ever believed her, but she knows it wasn't an animal that attacked the assassins…it was human. Years have passed, and Catherine is a strong, confident, capable police officer, working alongside her equally talented partner, Tess. While investigating a murder, Catherine discovers a clue that leads her to a handsome doctor named Vincent Keller, who was reportedly killed by enemy fire while serving in Afghanistan in 2002. Catherine learns that Vincent is actually still alive and that it was he who saved her many years before. For mysterious reasons that have forced him to live outside of traditional society, Vincent has been in hiding for the past 10 years to guard his secret – when he is enraged, he becomes a terrifying beast, unable to control his super-strength and heightened senses. Catherine agrees to protect his identity in return for any insight he may have into her mother's murder. Thus begins a complex relationship between Catherine and Vincent, who are powerfully drawn to each other yet understand that their connection is extremely dangerous for both of them.

The series stars Kristin Kreuk ("Smallville," "Chuck") as Catherine, Jay Ryan ("Terra Nova") as Vincent, Max Brown ("The Tudors," "MI-5") as Evan, Nina Lisandrello ("Nurse Jackie") as Tess, Nicole Gale Anderson ("Make It or Break It") as Heather, Austin Basis ("Life Unexpected") as J.T., and Brian White ("The Shield," "The Cabin in the Woods") as Joe.

~ Cult ~
Coming Soon to the CW
Investigative journalist Jeff Sefton has learned to laugh off his brother Nate's relentless string of obsessions, especially his latest rant that a hit TV show intends to harm him. However, when his brother mysteriously disappears, Jeff takes Nate's paranoia seriously, and in the process uncovers the dark underworld of the TV show "Cult" and its rabid fans. The only person who seems willing to help Jeff with his investigation is Skye, a young research assistant for "Cult," who has also started to grow suspicious of the increasingly dark happenings surrounding the show. The fictitious show, centered on the cat-and-mouse game between charismatic cult leader Billy Grimm and LAPD detective Kelly Collins, has become an obsession for its viewers – and now some of its devotees seem to be taking their fixation to deadly extremes in the real world. As Jeff and Skye dig deeper into the fan world, they discover that the gruesome plot twists on television are much more than fantasy for some very unfortunate people. The hardcore fans of "Cult" would kill to see what happens next…

And a young woman's life is dramatically changed when a local militia arrives and kills her father, who mysteriously - and unbeknownst to her - had something to do with the blackout. This brutal encounter sets her and two unlikely companions off on a daring coming-of-age journey to find answers about the past in the hopes of reclaiming the future. From director Jon Favreau ("Iron Man," "Iron Man 2") and the fertile imaginations of J.J. ~ The Following ~
the following

THE FBI estimates there are currently over 300 active serial killers in the United States. What would happen if these killers had a way of communicating and connecting with each other? What if they were able to work together and form alliances across the country? What if one brilliant psychotic serial killer was able to bring them all together and activate a following?Welcome to THE FOLLOWING, the terrifying new thriller from creator/executive producer Kevin Williamson ("The Vampire Diaries," "Dawson's Creek," the "Scream" franchise). When notorious serial killer JOE CARROLL (James Purefoy, "Rome") escapes from death row and embarks on a new killing spree, the FBI calls former agent RYAN HARDY (Emmy-nominated actor Kevin Bacon, "X-Men: First Class," "Frost/Nixon") to consult on the case. Having since withdrawn from the public eye, Hardy was responsible for Carroll's capture nine years ago, after Carroll murdered 14 female students on the Virginia college campus where he taught literature.Hardy is a walking textbook of all-things Carroll. He knows him better than anyone; he is perhaps Carroll's only psychological and intellectual match. But the Ryan Hardy who broke the Carroll case years ago isn't the same man today. Wounded both physically and mentally by his previous pursuit of this serial killer, it's been a long time since Hardy has been in the field. This investigation is his redemption, his call to action. In contrast to nine years ago, Hardy isn't calling the shots on this case. He works closely with an FBI team, which includes all-business and tough-as-nails JENNIFER MASON (Jeananne Goossen, "The Vow," ALCATRAZ) and young, razor-sharp MIKE WESTON (Shawn Ashmore, "X-Men"). The team considers Hardy to be more of a liability than an asset. But Hardy proves his worth when he uncovers that Carroll was covertly communicating with a network of killers in the outside world. It quickly becomes obvious that he has more planned than just a prison escape, and there's no telling how many additional killers are out there. The FBI's investigation leads Hardy to CLAIRE MATTHEWS (Natalie Zea, "Justified"), Carroll's ex-wife and mother of the criminal's 10-year-old son, JOEY (newcomer Kyle Catlett). Close during Hardy's initial investigation, Hardy turns to Claire for insight into Carroll's next move. The tension rises when Carroll's accomplices kidnap his intended last victim from nine years ago. Hardy becomes ever more determined to end Carroll's game when he realizes that the psychopath intends to finish what he started. The thriller will follow Hardy and the FBI as they are challenged with the ever-growing web of murder around them, masterminded by the devious Carroll, who dreams of writing a novel with Hardy as his protagonist. The reinvigorated Hardy will get a second chance to capture Carroll, as he's faced with not one, but a cult of serial killers.THE FOLLOWING is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Outerbanks Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television. The series is created, written and executive-produced by Kevin Williamson. Marcos Siega ("Dexter," "The Vampire Diaries") also serves as an executive producer and directed the pilot.

Review: Deadlocked by Charlaine Harris

Posted on May 27, 2012 with 1 comment

May 27, 2012

A Sookie Stackhouse Novel

With Felipe de Castro, the Vampire King of Louisiana (and Arkansas and Nevada), in town, it’s the worst possible time for a body to show up in Eric Northman’s front yard—especially the body of a woman whose blood he just drank.

Now, it’s up to Sookie and Bill, the official Area Five investigator, to solve the murder. Sookie thinks that, at least this time, the dead girl’s fate has nothing to do with her. But she is wrong. She has an enemy, one far more devious than she would ever suspect, who’s out to make Sookie’s world come crashing down

Cindy's Review...
I was frustrated with this addition to what, in the beginning, was an endearing series. Charlaine Harris had a wonderful concept, a fabulous writing appeal and a great continuation in this action packed tale. But with "THE END" coming upon us, I felt more of a "Let's tie up loose strings" type of attitude with this book. There was plenty of action, but NO Sookie love. Everyone says "We love you Sookie", but she just ran around tying up every open relationship. And this saddened me! After all the stuff she has put up with, betrayal, death threats, injury after injury...no one stopped and said "But what does Sookie want?" And the one thing she had that could help her with her hearts desire, the ONE thing...well...we all know that I'm not gonna give away that little jewel! So it's hurry up and wait time folks...the last in the series won't be released till May 2013. I wish I had set this book aside for a year and waited for Dead Ever After~the real end to this series!

Normally at this time I give you a funny quote, but I don't feel I can do that with this book. So instead I leave you with the final quote: "Sure Sam," I said, very quietly."Another day."

Review: Werewolf in Seattle by Vicki Lewis Thompson

Posted on May 26, 2012 with 2 comments

May 26, 2012

The last thing Colin McDowell wants is to inherit his Aunt Geraldine's mansion in the San Juan islands off the coast of Washington. As the pack leader of the Trevelyans in Scotland, he had little time to travel halfway around the world to take care of his inheritance.

But the trip takes a pleasant turn when he meets Luna Reynaud, the young secretary his aunt hired shortly before she died. He isn't sure which surprises him more-Luna's clever plan for turning the mansion into a resort of the fact that she's drop-dead gorgeous. Both intrigue him-until he learns that Luna is only a half-breed. There's no way a pack leader can mate with a woman who's partly human...or is there?

Cindy's Review:
Beautiful, virginal 27 year old Werewolf Luna Reynaud has never been a wolf pack sorta girl. Left without parents from the age of 8, Luna never knew she was a wolf until her 14Th year of age and her unexpected change. Her mother was human and never said anything about her wolf father, other than she loved him and lost him. So when Luna's life on a remote Washington Island working as a personal assistant for an ageing wolf takes a turn for her, it's time to embrace her wolfiness and take the next step in her life. Time to love a man, and what a man she has chosen: Drop dead gorgeous Colin MacDowell has come to Le Floret Island as the sole heir of his Aunt Geraldine to dispose of her beloved retreat. When heart-breaker Luna proposes to turn the mansion into a Were retreat the submission sounds fun. So does Luna. But can an Alpha who is dead set on no human interactivity bend enough to embrace what could only be the gal for him? Or will old prejudices hold him back and cause the loss of true love for two so very different wolves?

There were moments here when all I wanted to do was smack some sense into one block headed wolf. Luna's way worked out much better that mine, her graciousness and style were so much more of what a Scottish laird would need to make him complete. I enjoyed this look into a wolf world that Ms. Thompson painted for us...howling good fun can be found on Le Floret at Whittier House Inn!

Funny quote of the day: "We don't need that book. Or-" She peered at the spines of his other choices. "Fun With Chemistry or The Secret Life of Snails. Put them back." "I don't know. That last one sounds sexy. Maybe they dress up in black lingerie."

~ Playing Catch Up ~

Posted on May 25, 2012 with 2 comments

May 25, 2012

Summer doesn't kick off until this weekend, but already I see a recurring theme in my reading material, one that more than likely will continue this summer.  What theme am I talking about?  Well, I've been playing catch up on series that I started but haven't kept up with or series that I've never begun but wanted to.  There are just so many great books and at times we readaholics get side tracked by other books and series while waiting for the release of a particular book.  I keep a meticulous record of all the books I've read, and all the books I'm going to read.  I keep two specific calendars at all times one is for all my family dates and the other's sole purpose is to keep track of books. At times I look at my book calender and am amazed by how many dates are sequestered by book release dates.  In between these dates my fickle little heart will find a new book or author and become absorbed in that particular journey.  Then when I resurface and check my calender and email, I realize that I've missed a release date, or the arrival of a book via amazon.  Granted this doesn't happen too often, but when it does, I have to play catch up.
If there is one thing I can not stand, it's reading books out of order. I hate when I come across books that have back stories and find myself clueless.  Even the most talented of authors can only retell so much of the previous book. I'm the kind of gal that needs all the details, I don't want any surprises because I don't have all the facts from previous books. I just don't want to read a book if it's in a series and I haven't keep up.  Obsessive much?  Believe me when I tell you that even I think this is obsessive behavior.
As if that weren't enough, then I have incredible friends that send me books  I have not read.  A couple of weeks ago my friend Steph from  FANGS WANDS AND FAIRY DUST learnt that I hadn't read the Chess Putman series by Stacia Kane and that I had an ARC for the fourth book.  So, she just sent me the first three books in the series. I've been hooked on those this past week, and very happy with Kane's unique writing style. I'm going to have send a little payback Steph's way, needless to say, I was completely thrilled with the generous gift.
Before starting on the Chess Putman series I was all over the  Katherine "Kitty" Kat series by Gini Koch and finally caught up. Especially after I won the ARC for Alien Diplomacy.  Please join Gini Koch's site, she has amazing giveaways all year round. Plus Gini Koch is always going to Comi cons and comes back with tons of goodies that she so lovingly gives away on her site. Gini is at the Phoenix Comicon this week so that means there will be lots up for grabs when she returns. So please subscribe to her site and above all read her books, they are too kewl.  Then I began the Alex Craft series by Kalayna Price, I had to play catch up quickly because Grave Memory, the third book in the series, is due out in July.  My reading club is currently discussing Grave Witch, the first book in the series. If you haven't read the book, check out this giveaway HERE.  My friend Wall-toWall Books is hosting the event during  her month of Witches. Hurry the last day to enter is the 29th of May!

Below is a list of the other series I have to play catch up with. Some are new series and some are series I began but haven't been up to date with. There are more, but I won't be able to read them this summer.

The World of the Edge Series by Ilona Andrews
Books: (New series for me.)
  1. ON THE EDGE
  2. BAYOU MOON
  3. FATE’S EDGE
  4. STEEL’S EDGE –November 27, 2012 ~ Pre Order

The Sabina Kane Series by Jaye Wells
Books:
  1. Vampsploitation -Prequel short story to Red-Headed Stepchild.                                               (Found in The Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance, vol 2
  2. Red-Headed Stepchild (Read)
  3. The Mage In Black
  4. Green-Eyed Demon
  5. Silver Tongued Devil
  6. Blue-Blooded Vampire
*  I'm not quite sure why I stopped reading the series, more than likely my little fickle self was distracted by some other book.  My bestie Cindy @ Cinfully Wonderful Reviews reminded me of the series when she told me of her "must haves" for June.  I then realized that I had only read the first book, and made a note to play catch up.

The Allie Beckstrom Series by Devon Monk
(Major Catch UP)
  1. Magic To The Bone (Read)
  2. Magic In The Blood
  3. Magic In The Shadows
  4. Magic On The Storm
  5. Magic At The Gate
  6. Magic On The Hunt
  7. Magic On The Line
  8. Magic Without Mercy

How do you feel about series?  Are you as norotic as I am?  What are your favorite series?

Oh, just in case you read the
Dorina Basarab Series by  Karen Chance, there's a contest!
Head over to her place and find out how you could be the lucky winner of Fury's Kiss.
