Harm no human…

A hired gunslinger, William Jessup Brady lived his life with one foot in the grave. He believed that every life had a price. Until the day when he finally found a reason to live. In one single act of brutal betrayal, he lost everything, including his life. Brought back by a Greek goddess to be one of her Dark-Hunters, he gave his immortal soul for vengeance and swore he’d spend eternity protecting the humans he’d once considered prey.

Orphaned as a toddler, Abigail Yager was taken in by a family of vampires and raised on one belief—Dark-Hunters are the evil who prey on both their people and mankind, and they must all be destroyed. While protecting her adoptive race, she has spent her life eliminating the Dark-Hunters and training for the day when she meeting the man who killed her family: Jess Brady.

A gun in the hand is worth two in the holster…

Jess has been charged with finding and terminating the creature who’s assassinating Dark-Hunters. The last thing he expects to find is a human face behind the killings, but when that face bears a striking resemblance to the one who murdered him centuries ago, he knows something evil is going on.

Engrossing!  Riveting!  Kool!
Sherrilyn Kenyon has got "mad skills"!   'Retribution' brings us a cowboy Dark Hunter with swagger and a pinch the of wild wild west!   Sherrilyn Kenyon's amazing tale of cowboys and Indians is unlike any roundup you've ever read of.   You will find it all here in this desert playground called 'Retribution'. Jess will leave you begging to be called "Baby", and Abigail is the perfect fit to this hunky Dark Hunter. Of all the places to find a Dark Hunter, the desert was the last place I'd think to look.  Dark Hunters, demons, gods, ghouls, and daimons are just some of the characters you will find in this action packed book.    Kenyon's ability to spin a tale seeped in a metaphrastic mystery will leave you enchanted and yearning for more. 'Retribution' is a must read.

~ENEMY MINE ~

By Karin Harlow

Book two in the L.O.S.T. series.

Lovers from opposite worlds reunite in Karin Harlow’s explosive,
erotic new L.O.S.T adventure...

EXCERPT

The Gold Coast at midnight had come alive. Like a living, breathing rock star high on cocaine, it pulsated with vitality and energy unlike any other.

Nikko stood across the street from Lost Souls. Scents and sounds swirled around him, blending into an indistinguishable blob. But he didn’t need to be told Selena was inside. He could smell her. Exotic and sultry, her scent overrode all others. He had thought that learning she was alive, then seeing the proof positive in pictures, had elicited a strong reaction from him at the compound, but the reality of it now created an emotional maelstrom inside him. Longing, hate, and betrayal jockeyed for the top spot in his heart. Worming itself between all of those feelings was the unmitigated desire to hold her again, to make love to her—not the cold-blooded killer she was today, but the innocent girl he’d fallen in love with so long ago, before she—Nikko mentally shook himself. He allowed the hatred and his need for vengeance to take control. That would get him through this mission. Keep him sane as his body, his mind, and his soul continued to evolve into something and someone so foreign to him, he would admit only to himself that it terrified him. He was unpredictable even to himself. He battled impulses he had always had control of. His emotions raged. It was becoming unbearable, this thing inside him. He sneered, wanting to bend her to his will, to—he squeezed his eyes shut, not wanting to acknowledge the visions of his taking her until she screamed for him to stop.

No, his desire wasn’t simply to fuck her again. Since his arrival in Miami that morning, a new hunger had taken root. For blood. Anyone’s would do, but he craved Selena’s blood most of all.

Nikko struggled for composure. He was Ice, damn it. He would not blow this mission apart. Put this team at risk. Or himself.

“You smell her?” Cross asked from Nikko’s left.

While Nikko did not have the nuances of a vampire that Cross possessed, he had enough of the primal part to make him dangerous. His senses were honed, his strength impressive, and now his desire for blood was driving the vampire in him. Once he had looked at Cross as a freak, one without feelings or humanity. Now, walking in his shoes, Nikko understood what drove him as a man and a vampire and was impressed at how Cross managed to maintain his iron control. Nikko was having extreme difficulty with that.

“Yeah.”

“Marcus and I will go in first and get the lay of the land,” Cassidy said from Nikko’s right.

He nodded, fighting the craving to get to Selena first. Get her alone. At his mercy. The things he wanted to do to her were inhuman. But hadn’t what she’d done to him made her a monster? Nikko set his jaw. What he had done to her made him every bit as much a monster.

He had dived headfirst into love with Selena. Given her every part of him. Only to be betrayed in the most heinous way a woman could betray a man. He had reacted viciously. He had paid for it with his soul. Now his only regret was that she was still alive. How long that would continue was up to him, and he wasn’t feeling particularly generous at the moment.

“Cruz, I don’t like that look,” Cassidy said, staring up at him, her face wrinkled in consternation. “Plot your revenge later. After we get what we came for.”

Nikko set his jaw. His revenge would be slow, methodical—

“Cruz, if you give in to the bloodlust, it will destroy you,” Cross quietly said. “It’s like a drug. If you don’t control it, it will control you.”

Nikko closed his eyes and only saw red. “I just want to tear her apart.”

Cassidy touched his hand. He looked down into her serious but compassionate eyes. “I know you do, Nikko. I don’t blame you. But if you can’t get a handle on your emotions, millions of lives could be on the chopping block.”

Nikko exhaled. Cassidy was right. This mission was bigger, much bigger than his hatred for the woman who owned Lost Souls.

He drew in a long breath. “Lucinda, the first moment I saw you, I was taken by your beauty. When I saw you, I could not help but catch my breath. I even thought of you when you weren’t near.”

Lucinda stared at him. This she had not ever guessed he would say. “Y-You did? I had no idea.”

He nodded once. “You were another man’s wife and I never would have pursued that interest out of a respect not only for your husband and his brother, but for you. But yes, I wanted you. I want you still, Lucinda. Perhaps now more than ever.”

She could hardly breathe at this revelation. What he was saying… it was madness! She ought to be offended, as he had said he feared. She ought to turn away from his blunt admission of desire and tell him never to speak of it again.

But she didn’t. All she did was stand still as stone and drown in the roaring echo of her heartbeat as it pounded in her ears like an ocean tide.

He moved a fraction closer and that tide turned even more violent. All she could see now was him. All she could feel was him… and he wasn’t even touching her.

“But Lucinda, I would never want to be something you regret.” He shook his head. “I am going to go away for a few days. There is a bit of business for me to do in a neighboring shire. When I return, we can pretend this conversation never happened, if that is what you desire. Or…”

He trailed off and held Lucinda’s gaze evenly. She struggled to find her voice and finally squeaked out, “Or?”

“Whatever you like, Lucinda,” he whispered and then he caught her hand and drew her even closer. His lips lowered again and he kissed her a second time...

~ A Scoundrel's Surrender ~
by Jenna Petersen

Book 3 in the Billingham Bastard Series

When Caleb Talbot looked across the room toward the beautiful blond woman standing with his brother and sister-in-law, he felt many things. They hadn’t known each other very long, but already Marah Farnsworth brought out a desire so powerful it nearly took him to his knees. Beyond that, he was racked by guilt over acting on that desire just a few days prior in an encounter that still melted his bones and haunted his restless dreams.

More troubling, seeing her brought out a flutter of something more. Something deeper, more seductive than pleasure and infinitely more terrifying. Emotions he had scoffed at in his friends and acquaintances when they described falling in love with some chit.

The one thing he did not feel, as she turned toward him and cast a quick smile in his direction, was happiness. These unwanted and unexpected feelings had come at the most inopportune time. The worst time of his life, truly.

Because Caleb was not who he had always thought he was. It had been only a few days since he found proof that he was a bastard, a child born of some kind of indiscretion on his mother’s part, not of his father’s loins, but some stranger. Worse, his brother had known and hidden that fact from him for years.

And the truth of all these things rocked him whenever it passed through his mind . . . as it had been passing through his mind on a constant stream for days.

He clenched the glass in his hand until he swore he could feel the delicate stemware creak beneath his palm. And of course, in that troubled moment, Marah came toward him. He watched her move, float really, for women like her seemed to glide weightlessly rather than walk.

“Caleb?” she whispered as she reached his side and looked up at him with impossibly wide and blue eyes that were currently filled with kindness and understanding. Her voice was like music, soothing him.

He shook his head and forced a tight smile down at her. “Marah.”

She hesitated for a moment and then her hand reached out to touch his arm. She meant the brush of her fingers as a comfort, but sparks exploded within him, overpowering him with a desire to grab her, tug her against him, kiss her until everything else faded, all the pain dissipated.

But he didn’t. He had allowed himself to drown in her once, to confess the dark rage and pain that bubbled within him. He had taken comfort in her body and could offer her no more than that. And she deserved more. More than he could give, at least at the moment.

Book 2 ~ Billingham Bastards

The life of a duchess has its ups and downs.

Betrothed at birth to the heir of one of England's loftiest titles, Lady Anne Danvers has been raised to run grand estates and host glittering parties. Which leaves her ill-prepared when her husband of one week rides off without a word, with no intention of returning.

Rhys Carlisle, Duke of Waverly, never wanted a love match—but he never dreamed he'd be abandoning his beautiful bride right after their blissful honeymoon. Alas, a terrible secret has shattered his world and he cannot face the truth . . . or the people he cares about most.
To entice back the husband she's long desired but barely knows, Anne will employ any means necessary—a surprisingly pleasurable proposition for them both. But the dangerous swirl of lies, deceits, and blackmail surrounding them merely grows stronger as their hearts grow closer, threatening to tear apart the passionate love affair they've only just begun . . .

Delightful! The Unclaimed Duchess by Jenna Petersen is the second book in the Billingham Bastard series and more pieces of the puzzle come to light. There is nothing better than a hero that has personal demons coming out of his shell. Rhys Carlisle is a complete jerk at the beginning of this book, but all that changes and he truly becomes all sorts of great.   Anne's love for Rhy has no bounds, she will deal with all his faults for the man that she loves and knows exist below the surface.

Blissful!  Intriguing!  Lillian's desire to exact revenge by way of divulging all of the late Duke of  Billingham's secrets keeps a reader interested.  Simon's sense of honor and his desire for Lillian is what romances are all about.   I'm a Jenna Petersen fan and enjoy her historicals, so when she began this new series it was a no brainer, I just had to read it.  I've owned this book since 2009 but wanted to reread the series in anticipation for the current release of A Scoundrel's Surrender, the 3rd book in the Billingham Bastards.  With each book the series grows and becomes more interesting.  Great summer read!

Book 2 in the Billingham Bastards

“Rhys,” she said softly, reaching for him.

He yanked away from her hand and got up from the bed, pacing to the window and pulling the curtain back to look outside. In profile, she saw his scowl, though all his angry emotions seemed to be self-directed.

“I can’t, Anne. I already told you I can’t make love to you,” he said, his voice strained with tension and emotions he normally hid.

She sat up, covering her breasts with the tangled bedcovers.

“Because you don’t want me?” she asked, unable to mask her hurt as easily as he seemed to mask his own.

He spun on her and now she felt some of the anger in his stare. In a long stride, he came to the edge of the bed and caught her hand. He jerked her fingers to his pant front and pressed them against the hard length of his erection that remained outlined there.

“I want you,” he whispered, his voice harsh. “But I can’t have you. I’ve told you why.”

Anne squeezed her eyes shut, fighting tears, fighting frustration and resentment at his repeated denials of the future she had so carefully planned.

Finally, he sighed. “I need to leave you now.”

Anne’s eyes flew open and she stared at him in terror. “Leave me?” she repeated, thinking of the horrible days she had spent searching for him.

He shook his head. “Just for a while. I’ll return, Anne, I promise you that.”

She opened her mouth to answer, but he turned his back on her and left the cottage before she could speak, slamming the door behind him...

Wonderful!  Steamy! Endearing!   Pleasures of a Notorious Gentleman will leave you all warm and fuzzy.  I truly loved the characters in this book.  I’m a sucker for the wounded solider, Stephan is the embodiment of a broken man returning from war. Ms. Heath was spot on with her historical descriptions of both war and the conditions found on the war front, I felt as if I was there.  Mercy’s love for the child is heart warming, endearing her to me on so many levels.   I highly recommend this book.  I look forward to 3rd book in the series.

~ Jenna Petersen ~

Jenna Petersen knew she wanted to be a writer at a very young age and had a very specific image of what that meant. In her mind, she would live in Los Angeles (why not New York… who knows?), attend book signings, drive a very expensive car and date endlessly (and apparently, unsuccessfully). There was little actual writing involved in the fantasy.

Instead, she got a degree in Psychology from the University of Washington, married her high school sweetheart and moved to Central Illinois. There was much actual writing involved in the reality and she learned a lot in the years she waited to hear she sold a book.

Jenna enjoys travel, history, live baseball, Bears and Eagles football, and of course, all things related to reading and writing. She runs a website for aspiring authors called The Passionate Pen, which has become a popular resource in the romance writing community. She also writes erotic romance under the pseudonym Jess Michaels.

The following are just some of Jenna Petersens great books.

Book 1 in the Billingham Bastards

She cocked an eyebrow as she looked him up and down. “If you truly missed your shot by chance, I shall eat my bonnet.”

He barked out surprised laughter and his strange green eyes twinkled in a way that was quite mesmerizing. Lillian had to force herself to look somewhere else.

“The whole bonnet?” he asked, leaning back as if he was examining the hat perched on her head. “Including the feather?”

“Especially the feather,” she retorted with a smile she had not bidden.

She pressed her lips together in frustration the moment she had spoken. It seemed she was too willing to abandon her plans the moment Simon turned his charm her way. Gabby said she had to allow his interest to play out, but that didn’t mean she should like the way he looked at her or smiled at her.

“Well, I would not want to be the cause of your indigestion,” Simon said with a shrug. “Therefore, I concede I missed my final shot on purpose.”

“Whatever for?” Lillian asked. “You were doing quite well.”

“I was more interested in speaking to a young lady who is apparently one of the worst croquet players to ever pick up a mallet.”

He tilted his head and though his words were teasing there was a heat in his stare that made Lillian’s very blood tingle and all her objections to his attentions fade away. She swallowed hard.

“That would be you, by the way, Miss Mayhew,” he whispered.

“You are very rude. I am certainly not the worst croquet player I know.” She tried to maintain a light tone, but her voice was suddenly husky.

His eyes widened. “You know worse? Good Lord.” His arm came out to fill the space between them and hovered there. “You must tell me more about this crime against sport and nature. Perhaps while we take a turn about the gardens?”

Again, Lillian swallowed. It seemed her body was determined to war with her mind, for she found herself leaning toward Simon, even as her brain screamed at her that he was the son of a man she hated.

But how could she refuse him with everyone watching? And even if they were pretending not to, they were all watching. Resistance could only bring trouble. In truth there was little choice in the matter.

Suppressing a sigh, she slipped her fingers through the crook of his elbow and allowed him to lead her away from the croquet field into the garden, which was edged by a shrubbery that came up to her waist.

“And now I have another confession to make,” Simon said as they walked slowly down the path through beautiful flowers and carefully trimmed bushes.

“And what is that, Your Grace?” she asked, her mouth suddenly dry.

“I do not wish to talk about croquet,” he said with a light laugh. “Unless that is a true passion of yours.”

She stopped in the middle of the pathway and glided her hand away from him. It felt warm as she clutched it to her breast.

"Your Grace, forgive my impertinence, but why in the world do you insist upon pursuing me?” she burst out. Immediately she wished to snatch the words back or recall the moment.

Years of rejection rose to the forefront of her mind. Men who had seemed interested, but ultimately pushed her aside when they uncovered the rumors of her past. Simon had to know about her mother by now. Someone certainly must have let him know if only to discourage him. And yet he continued in this down this unexpected and unwanted course.

Simon looked at her long and hard before he spoke, but his expression was not one of disappointment or even shock. He seemed to be truly considering her question before he said, “Because, Miss Mayhew, unlike the other woman who have gathered here, you interest me. And truth be told, you confuse me. Not many people manage that feat.”

“Confuse you?” Lillian repeated.

He nodded. “One moment you are playful, the next you seem determined to get as far away from me as humanly possible. I saw a love of books reflected in your eyes when you stumbled upon my library, but you pretended disinterest when I asked you about it. I don’t know what to think of you or how to read you and I like that. I like the uncertainty.”

Lillian blinked. His reply was entirely unexpected. She didn’t think any man had ever been so straightforward with her. Most danced around with pretty words and never really gave an answer. But this… this was an answer.

“Not to mention the fact that you are quite beautiful, Miss Mayhew,” he continued and now he took a small step closer. “Lillian.”

She was suddenly aware of how tall he was. And that he smelled faintly of pine, like he spent a great deal of time outside in the fresh air. She found herself breathing him in subtly. But then she shook her head and backed away, desperate to break the strange spell he had woven around her with pretty words and heated glances.

“There are at least a dozen beautiful women here, Simon.” She flushed as she realized her slip. It seemed her private use of his given name had instilled bad habits in her. “Your Grace.”

But a light of triumph had already brightened his eyes. Her use of his name was only encouragement to him.

She hastened to add something else, to counteract her inappropriate statement with a fact that would crush his interest.

“Those other women are far more appropriate than I am, as well,” she finally whispered. “If you are on this path to court me, I would bring nothing to you, Your Grace. No money, no alliance with a powerful family, in fact my connections would bring you down in the estimation of some. I did not come here to pursue that kind of connection to you, I have no illusions that I shall marry, perhaps at all.”

He smiled again, but this time there was a gentleness to it. “All that you say may be true. However I find that I don’t really care that much. I do find you interesting, Lillian, whether you like it or not, whether you expected it or not. And since I have the power and the access and the time, I intend to pursue my interest.”

Lillian’s lips parted as he moved even closer. She felt his body heat now, suffusing her fine linen gown, warming her beneath in a way that suggested naked skin and writhing bodies. With a start, she turned away, but he caught her wrist and held her steady.

“You are a riddle I intend to solve,” he whispered, his gaze holding hers.

 I gave this book a 5

5star

Glorious!  Nonpareil! Delicious! Bound by Moonlight by Nancy Gideon is the cornucopia of a thrilling paranormal romance.  Gideon’s bold characters will leave you with a story to cherish. Her ability to capture and reflect the complex elements in human nature are masterful.  Max Savoie is the epitome of what a alpha character should be.  He has the ability to melt you with just a look!  Cee Cee’s character is complex and believable,  she comes alive on the pages.   Nancy Gideon has weaved an incredible story by which the only outcome is intense cravings for more, and more she delivers.  Undeniably, hands down, one of the best paranormal books of the year!  Followers of the series will only rage for more.  Gideon will leave you hanging on her every word!

As you can see, I can’t say enough about this book and the series.  Everything about this book and series calls to me.  I highly recommend this series.  I want to say more, but don’t want to ruin it for those who have yet to read it.

Below is a short recap of my history with Max.  It’s silly and pretentious, but I thought you might have a laugh over it!

Last summer I found this one vibrant book on the shelf and took it home.  It was the beginning of a summer love affair.  His name was Max, and I haven’t been the same since.   I stalked the book shelves for more of this elusive creature. I waited with a tightly reigned desire for him to make another summer appearance late in July. Oh, the joy of having him all to myself was indescribable!  July had never been sweeter, but, alas, it all came to an end, Max belonged to  another. As difficult as it was, I understood.  His promises of seeing me the following July were sincere and heartfelt.   Even though I knew I’d never be the same again, I embraced the thought of a cold and lonely year without him.
As this summer began I was giddy with just the thought or mention of him.   I didn’t know if I was going to be able to stand the wait.  He was so near, yet so far away.  If I could have traveled through time, he would have been mine sooner.   On the day of his arrival on my doorstep, I was inconsolable.   I was ecstatic, I kissed him, caressed him and ran around the house with him in my arms.  I had waited all year for this moment and nothing was going to stop me from being with him.
Sadly our time side by side came to an end.  We had such a short time together, but it was one of the most cherished moments of the year.  I hung on to his every word, I smiled at his antics, and shared in all his emotions. I found myself trying to preserve everything to memory, for when he would no longer be with me.  As we said our good-byes, he promised he would visit again, but we both knew it would never be the same.
