Winter brings to mind evergreen forests, and, in particular an amazing stretch of California coastline in Mendocino County. Called the Lost Coast because of its dense growth and the difficult terrain that keeps development impossible: it’s foggy, mysterious, deep and dark. This evocative shawl portrays evergreens, undergrowth, and beads of condensation from the ever present fog.

The shawl starts with a lacy crescent top section shaped with short rows, and moves into an expanding tree pattern. All increases are worked into the motifs. From there a cable and old shale motif grows. The bind-off is designed to resemble a feathery undergrowth of ferns.
