A large rectangular shawl inspired by North African embroideries, the colors of camels, the sumptuous hand-dyed gradients of Erica Heftmann’s ColorShift Yarn and memories of a trip to the Atlas mountains.

The shawl was knit on 3.25mm/US3 needles with ColorShift Yarn:
MC: Chestnut Gradation (6 x 160yds/146m) and five of the six skeins of Chestnut to Charcoal Gradation (5 x160yds/146m)
CC’s: Botanical Green Gradient (6 x 40yds/37m), Zinnia Color Bridge (8 x 30yds/28m), Tea Rose Gradation (6 x 30yds/28m)
Blue to Gray Color Bridge (6 x 30yds/28m)

Unfortunately, ColorShift is currently unavailable and would appear to be discontinued. If you are looking for substitute yarns, ColorShift Yarn is described in the Etsy Store as a two-ply jumper weight (fingering) yarn milled from 23.5 micron superwash Merino wool that knits up at about 8 st/in on US1-2 needles (2.25-2.75mm). There is a Gorgeous Gradients group here on Ravelry which might be a good starting point for substitute gradient yarns, and you can click on the “yarn ideas” tab above to see what yarns have been used in Ravelry projects.

If you are using different yarn, allow the following quantities:
MC 1760yds/1610m, CC1: 80yds/75m, CC2: 220yds/200m, CC3: 140yds/130m, CC4: 160yds/145m, CC5: 120yds/110m
CC intarsia motifs: 42 x 32in/80cm lengths in a variety of shades

Please note that gauge and needle size are different from similar patterns like Sari and Bosphorus:
Gauge: approximately 30 stitches and 32 rows = 4in/10cm in stranded knitting
& approximately 17 stitches and 32 rows = 4in/10cm in zigzag lace pattern
Finished dimensions: approximately 26ins/66cm by 86.5ins/220cm

Techniques include lace knitting, back and forth stranding, intarsia and trapping, with 6 - 7 colors in each row.
The chart is quite wide and is divided over two landscape pages.
The pdf includes a big chart, short written instructions and notes, a phototutorial on splicing yarn ends, and some holiday photos.
