Another knit/lab special: Atlantic Waves is a beautifully flowing pattern of brightly colored waves, inspired by trips to Donegal and Connemara on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way.

The waves are worked in intarsia with simple increases and decreases, and the large needle size creates a light open fabric. The pattern is easily customizable and is suitable for either a scarf or shawl.

The scarf sample was knit on 4.5mm/US7 needles with approximately 112g/515yds/470m of Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift yarn in lots of harmonizing colors.
Scarf dimensions: approximately 145cm/57in by 36cm/14in
Gauge: approximately 22 stitches and 26 rows = 10cm/4in in intarsia pattern

Techniques include intarsia and trapping, splicing, and simple increases and decreases.

The pattern also includes instructions for making a wider and longer shawl project:
Shawl yardage: approximately 203g/930yds/850m of Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift yarn in lots of harmonizing colors
Shawl dimensions: approximately 185cm/73in by 56cm/22in

The pdf includes a chart and instructions, notes on intarsia and sizing, and a phototutorial on splicing.
