Who will Saturday Night Live get to play Tim Walz in the upcoming season? Every presidential election season brings regular political cold openers, and since the whole country watches in rapt attention, it's worth wondering just who could fill Walz's shoes alongside Maya Rudolph's Kamala Harris (and against whoever plays JD Vance) when SNL's 50th season kicks off on September 28, 2024.
The very same day Harris announced Minnesota Governor Walz as her running mate, the SNL Walz casting speculation kicked off with the obvious choice: legendary host, comedian, and silver-haired teddy bear Steve Martin. A member of the Five-Timers Club, Martin's been a Saturday Night Live standby since the start, but since the show has dabbled in high-profile stunt-casting over the last decade or so, nobody's off the table when it comes to Walz fantasy casting.
Don't limit your imagination to current SNL players like Mikey Day or James Austin Johnson (who plays Trump week in and week out). Stars like Danny DeVito, Paul Giamatti, and Matt Damon could all do it, provided they've got a folksy Midwestern Tim Walz impression ready.
