These 'Smallville' Cast Members Were Involved In An Alleged Cult After The Show

Despite Tom Welling never getting to don the famed cape or tights of Superman, his portrayals of Clark Kent and his heroic alter ego is still widely regarded as one of the best. After the end of Smallville, Welling took something of a break from acting. He emerged in 2013 for a few film roles, appearing in Parkland and The Choice. 

Post-Smallville, he's probably best known, though, for his role on Lucifer as Lt. Marcus Pierce.

Allison Mack played the role of Chloe Sullivan, an aspiring journalist who later becomes an essential part of the Justice League.

Following the end of the show, she had a regular role on Wilfred and appearances on the likes of American Odyssey. Mack hit the headlines in 2018 for her involvement in NXIVM, an alleged sex trafficking cult founded by Keith Raniere.

After exiting his role as Lex Luthor, Michael Rosenbaum has mostly concentrated on comedic ventures. This has included stints on shows such as Breaking In and Impastor. The former villain also returned to the superhero genre.

He has voiced the Flash on several animated Justice League shows over the last decade.

John Glover was already a veteran actor when he signed on to play Lionel Luthor on Smallville. Since the series finale in 2011, the former Superman adversary-turned-ally has had a relatively quiet life. The actor did appear on a select few TV shows, such as TRON: Uprising and The Blacklist.

He also had a role in the TV movie The Lost Wife of Robert Durst.

After leaving Smallville in 2009, where she played Superman’s initial love interest, Lana Lang, Kristin Kreuk nabbed the lead role on CW’s Beauty and the Beast. In 2018, she starred on the Canadian television series Burden of Truth.

Like her Smallville co-star Allison Mack, Kreuk was linked to the NXIVM organization. The actor confirmed she had been involved with the group, but left in 2013 after realizing it was not the self-help company it claimed.

Justin Hartley is known to fans of Smallville as Oliver Queen, playing Green Arrow for five seasons before the show ended. He had a sporadic number of roles in the intervening years, but few starring ones. In 2016, though, he became one of the main cast members of the NBC hit This Is Us, and continues to enjoy success portraying Kevin.

Sam Jones III had only ever made brief television appearances before landing the role of Pete Ross, one of Clark Kent’s best friends, on Smallville. He went on to land bit parts on ER and Safe Harbor before being offered a starring role on Blue Mountain State.

Unfortunately, he ran into legal troubles and was sentenced to a year in prison in 2011.

Erica Durance portrayed the hugely important Lois Lane from Season 4 onwards. After leaving the show, she had roles in a variety of movies and TV series, but eventually landed the starring role of Dr. Alex Reid on Saving Hope.

Durance also returned to the DC universe in 2017 as Alura Zor-El on Supergirl.

Annette O’Toole has a long history with Superman, having first appeared in Superman 3 before taking the part of Clark Kent’s mother Martha on Smallville. Since the series wrapped, O’Toole has appeared on shows including Halt and Catch Fire, 11.22.63, and Grey's Anatomy. She also starred in the film Women Who Kill.

Cassidy Freeman may not have joined Smallville until later in its run, but she nevertheless became an important character. Playing the role of Tess Mercer, she served as another adversary for Clark Kent.

Following the conclusion of the show, she has continued to act in a wide range of films and television shows. These include the movie Fender Bender and television shows The Vampire Diaries and NCIS. In 2012, she landed a major part on the drama series Longmire.
