  • After landing her first big break at a relatively young age, Bonnie Wright has shown tremendous growth as an actress through the early 2010s. At only 10, she made her debut film appearance in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," which became a hit and launched a franchise of movies. Wright played Ginny Weasley, the younger sister of main protagonist Ron Weasley. Though her appearance in the first "Harry Potter" film was brief, her character reappeared in the next year's installment, "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets," in a much meatier part: this time around, Ginny, a first-year student at Hogwarts, is possessed by the villainous Tom Riddle into attacking her classmates. Posited as a potential love interest for Harry Potter, Wright's screen time vacillated throughout the films, but her character's arc included joining Dumbledore's Army in 2007's "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," becoming considerably more adept at magic (as demonstrated in the '09 "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince"), and taking part in the pivotal battle in 2011's "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows--Part 2." Besides appearing in that highly-profitable movie franchise, she portrayed the young Agatha Christie in the '04 television film "Agatha Christie: A Life in Pictures." With the end of the "Harry Potter" films, Wright went back to school in "The Philosophers," a thriller about an institution that makes students compete to see who is most fit to survive in the event of nuclear disaster.

  • At the age of 13, actress Linda Blair found herself starring in one of the most influential films of all time and nominated for an Academy Award for her work in "The Exorcist" (1973), only to be typecast as a result of the role that made her a star. Not only did "The Exorcist" launch Blair's career, it also redefined the horror film genre and perpetuated a cultural fascination with demonic possession. It also made such an indelible impression on audiences that it became difficult for her to be accepted in roles other than those of the quintessential girl in danger. Early works in this vein bore critical fruit, such as "Born Innocent" (NBC, 1974) and "Sarah T. - Portrait of a Teenage Alcoholic" (NBC, 1975). Then came the disastrous sequel "Exorcist II: The Heretic" (1977), followed by the ill-advised attempt at a course correction with "Roller Boogie" (1979). With subsequent, and increasingly exploitative efforts such as "Chained Heat" (1983) and "Savage Streets" (1984), it seemed Blair's cinematic destiny was sealed. A much publicized arrest on drug charges - later dropped - combined with erotic thrillers such as "Bedroom Eyes II" (1989) did not help matters. Still, a chance to perform on Broadway in a revival of "Grease," and animal rescue work with her own non-profit organization helped to balance out some of the earlier, regrettable film choices. A mixed blessing to be sure, Blair's participation in "The Exorcist" provided her with a fame that, while limited, allowed her to pursue other more personal interests and work steadily throughout a lengthy career.

But it was her role on "The Brady Bunch" that became the most defining of her career. Her calming, good-natured presence on the show endeared her to generations of young viewers. Henderson tapped into that same maternal warmth for a wide variety of guest appearances, hosting gigs, and promotional opportunities. Despite a lifetime of trying to branch out from her "Brady" persona, Henderson remained ever the trooper, gamely poking fun at her alter ego on numerous occasions throughout the years. • Tallulah Bankhead
    Dec. at 66 (1902-1968)
Though primarily a talented stage actress, Tallulah Bankhead appeared in a number of features despite her distaste for Hollywood. In the 1920s and 1930s, Bankhead dazzled theater audiences in London and New York, though she ultimately became more famous for her tempestuous personality and endless string of love affairs than for her stage performances. In fact, it was the idea of Tallulah Bankhead - with her uninhibited nature, hard-drinking lifestyle and sultry come-hither voice calling everyone "Daaahling" - that became her claim to fame. She made her film debut with "Tarnished Lady" (1931), directed by George Cukor, and proceeded to make a handful of unsuccessful pictures like "The Cheat" (1931) and "Faithless" (1932) before turning back to the bright lights of Broadway. Bankhead was both acclaimed in "The Little Foxes" (1939) and "The Skin of Our Teeth" (1942) - both of which catered to her flamboyant nature - and ridiculed, as she was for "Antony and Cleopatra" (1937). Lured back to Hollywood by none other than Alfred Hitchcock, she delivered her strongest big screen performance in "Lifeboat" (1944), but fell under the weight of Otto Preminger's heavy-handed "A Royal Scandal" (1945). Following stints on anthology television and the success of her autobiography, Bankhead's star faded amidst a haze of alcohol and pills, as evidenced by her ragged appearance in "Die! Die! My Darling" (1965). Still, while other stage actresses fell into obscurity after their deaths, Bankhead remained a source of constant fascination that stood as a testament to both her talents and her over-the-top persona.

  • Kim Novak
    Age: 87
Kim Novak, a renowned figure in Hollywood's Golden Age, was born Marilyn Pauline Novak in Chicago, Illinois, on February 13, 1933. Raised in a working-class neighborhood, Novak's early life was far removed from the glitz and glamour of Tinseltown. A full-time scholarship at the Chicago Art Institute provided her with much-needed escape and she found solace in painting and poetry. Upon graduation, Novak took up a series of odd jobs, including a stint as an elevator operator, before setting off to pursue a career in modeling. Novak's journey into acting was fortuitous. Discovered by an agent during a tour of the Hollywood studios, Novak signed a contract with Columbia Pictures in 1954. Her initial roles were largely unremarkable, but things took a turn for the better when she starred opposite William Holden in Picnic (1955). The film catapulted her to fame, and she quickly became one of Hollywood's most celebrated stars. In 1958, Novak delivered what is arguably her most memorable performance in Alfred Hitchcock's thriller Vertigo, co-starring James Stewart. Despite her meteoric rise, Novak was constantly at odds with the studio system. Unwilling to conform to Hollywood's standards, she famously refused to change her name or appearance to suit the industry's whims. As a result, she opted to step away from the limelight in the late 1960s. After her departure, Novak returned only sporadically to acting, choosing instead to focus on her art and her personal life. Throughout her career and beyond, Kim Novak remained a symbol of individualistic defiance, her legacy defined by her talent and her refusal to compromise her authenticity.

  • Like many famous movie villains, actress Rachelle Lefevre received an enormous fan following after playing a vengeful vampire in "Twilight" (2008). The film was a monster hit, thanks in large part to the millions of die-hard fans who propelled its young cast out of obscurity and onto Hollywood's A-list. Already an accomplished feature film and television actress when she was still in her twenties, Lefevre studied savage lionesses of the desert in order to accurately portray the deliciously evil vampire Victoria in the movie and its 2009 sequel, "The Twilight Saga: New Moon." Yet nothing could have prepared the actress for the outpouring of support she received from the "Twilight" fan community after her role was recast due to scheduling conflicts in "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" (2010), the third film in the franchise. While the fan petitions did little to sway the studio's decision to maintain Lefevre as Victoria, her portrayal in the first two films remained one of the most unforgettable and raw performances of any villain - male or female - ever seen on the big screen.

  • Katharine Ross first attracted attention as Anne Bancroft's daughter in Mike Nichols' "The Graduate" (1967). Ross added impressive credits to her resume as the female lead in George Roy Hill's blockbuster "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" (1969). As Etta Place, the woman in love with Redford's Sundance Kid, she skillfully negotiated the film's seriocomic tone. She and Redford worked together in "Tell Them Willie Boy Is Here" (also 1969), Abraham Polonsky's period drama about an American Indian (Robert Blake) who kidnaps his white lover (Ross) and is reluctantly pursued by the local sheriff (Redford). While her character was perhaps the least defined in the piece, Ross delivered a fine performance. avoiding cliche. She also gave strong performances in the modern whodunit "They Only Kill Their Masters" (1972) and the scary "The Stepford Wives" (1975). Perhaps her most notable performance may have been her award-winning supporting turn as the hooker daughter of Jewish refugees in "Voyage of the Damned" (1976). She was paired with future husband Sam Elliott in "The Legacy" (1979). More recently, Ross was cast as the overly proper, somewhat fragile aunt of a young girl whose mother has attempted suicide in "Home Before Dark" (1997). After reprising one of her best feature roles in the TV movie "Wanted: The Sundance Woman" (ABC, 1976), Ross accepted the regular role of the much married socialite Francesca Scott Colby Hamilton on the ABC primetime soap opera "The Colbys" (1985-87). She has frequently worked on the small screen opposite her husband, notably as the second wife of a Houston plastic surgeon (Elliott) who may have been involved in the death of his first wife in "Murder in Texas" (NBC, 1981). The pair have also starred together in the likable Western "Louis L'Amour's 'The Shadow Riders'" (CBS, 1982) and the biopic "Houston: The Legend of Texas" (CBS, 1986). They also co-wrote and co-starred in the 1991 TNT movie "Conagher," based on another Louis L'Amour novel.

  • Ana Ortiz
    Age: 49
As part of the ensemble cast on the surprise sleeper hit "Ugly Betty" (ABC, 2006-2010), actress Ana Ortiz drew raves for what might easily have been a throwaway supporting role as Betty's older, more traditionally attractive sister, Hilda. An alumnus of the LaGuardia High School of the Performing Arts and Philadelphia's University of the Arts, she refined her acting technique in several theatrical productions in Philadelphia and New York prior to making the move to television. Early roles included a supporting part in "Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman: The Movie" (CBS, 1999) and a brief stint as a cast member on "Kristin" (NBC, 2001). Other guest spots and failed television projects followed, until Ortiz at last struck gold when she won the role of Hilda on "Ugly Betty." While not a series lead, she gained notoriety with the strength of her performance and the undeniable chemistry between herself and co-star, America Ferrera. Lauded by critics and fans for its positive portrayal of Latinos, the show became a certified hit during the first three years of its run. After "Betty" had left the air, Ortiz continued to appear in projects like the feature comedy "Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son" (2011), further expanding an already impressive Hollywood résumé.

  • Kathryn Grayson
    Age: Feb. at 88 (1922-2010)
One of the favorite stars of screen musicals during their heyday in the late 1940s and early 1950s, Kathryn Grayson was a visually and vocally striking singer and actress who graced some of the most popular films of the postwar era, including "Anchors Aweigh" (1947) and "Kiss Me Kate" (1953). Blessed with a coloratura soprano from an early age, she caught the attention of MGM chief Louis B. Mayer while a teenager, and was signed to a contract without the benefit of a screen test or drama lessons. Her combination of looks and voice made her an ideal leading lady opposite some of the biggest male musical performers of the day, including Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Mario Lanza, Gordon MacRae, and her personal favorite, Howard Keel, with whom she co-starred in several hit films. The demise of the Hollywood musical, however, brought her screen career to an end, though she remained active on stage in plays, musicals and opera for the next five decades, while the best of her film efforts earned classic status, ensuring her screen immortality.
