Everyone is kneaded out of the same dough but not baked in the same oven.
It's time for me to announce another WINNER! Thanks to all of you who made comments on the Sew Mama Sew Giveaway and WELCOME to all my NEW FOLLOWERS! It has been a real pleasure to watch my number of followers and page views rise over the last few months even though I have not been able to post as much as I would like. Many of you have found me because of the Hexagonal Christmas Tree Skirt post that I did back in July. It has been featured on several other blogs and that has brought a lot of you my way.
I enjoyed reading all the comments about your favorite Christmas Treats. I have always enjoyed baking and used to do a lot of it during the Holidays. My four children have fond memories of making and decorating cookies. Now that my body has decided that gluten and sugar are not my friends anymore I try to refrain from baking because it is so hard not to enjoy the fruit of my labors. Sigh . . . maybe heaven will have great baked goods for all to enjoy. ; - )
Just because I need to refrain from enjoying cookies doesn't mean all of you do. I thought you might like to have a Gingerbread Cookie Recipe to share with friends and neighbors. You can make it for yourself if you wish to test the recipe. Here's what you will need for
GINGERBREAD COOKIES IN A JAR
1 Quart Jar with Lid
1 Gingerbread Boy/Girl Cookie Cutter
Raisins, Red Hots etc. for decoration
Small Sandwich Bag
Ribbon
3 1/2 cups of all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground allspice
1 cup brown sugar
Place about half the flour in the jar and pack down firmly. Add next 6 ingredients and then remaining flour. Pack down firmly. Follow by packing in the brown sugar. Seal jar and tie cookie cutter, bag of raisins/red hots and directions below around the top with ribbon.
Gingerbread Cookies
Empty the dry ingredients in this jar into a large bowl. Mix well. Add the following:
1/2 cup softened butter
3/4 cup molasses
2 eggs
Mix until completely blended. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Roll dough to 1/4 inch thick on a floured surface. Cut into shapes. Place cookies onto a lightly greased cookie sheet about 2" apart. Bake 10 - 15 minutes. Cool and decorate with icing if desired.
I hope your Christmas projects are coming to a timely finish whether they be homemade or store bought. I still have a good bit to do including getting ready for the
CHRISTMAS TREE SKIRT ROUND UP
which begins on Tuesday.
