Our wee 1st place ribbon |
Our basket o' bunnies |
Well, those pics were from when my one sis (my felting partner sis) went to the fair with her hubs. And this past Friday my other sis (I have many sisters) and I went to the fair. Of course we had to go visit the dogs and bunnies as I wanted to see the ribbons in person.
But it was WAY better than I imagined - because we found out that our dogs ALSO won the "Best of Division" ribbon! Whoo-hoo! You should have seen me squealing and dancing in the hall. (Okay, maybe it's best that you didn't.)
Look at that big, beautiful blue ribbon!! |
A very excited me! |
Now, to return to our bunnies... My sis and I combed the hall twice until we finally found the 2nd place winner:
Somebody's wooly balls |
Anyway, now that we've hit the pinnacle of success, I'm not sure we should enter something again next year. After all, it would be tough to beat how well we did this year.
On the other hand, I found that for the $7 to pay to enter the competition, you get a free ticket to get in as an "exhibitor," so you save the $12 or so bucks it costs to get in, and - best of all - there was a special vendor/exhibitor entrance so we got to by-pass the big ol' line. That's definitely a reason to enter something again next year!
My friend said on Facebook: "You've raised the bar in the Needle Felting competition, maybe even inspired others to expand their own creativity. I think you should do another year to keep the quality of art high and also to get easy access to all the fair foods..."
True. Entering for easy access to the fair foods is reason enough. (BTW, we learned our lesson last year - avoid the freaky fried stuff!)
And you also get to see cute things like these real, non-woolen bunnies:
Look at this adorable FLUFFY bunny!!! |
This cutie w/ 1 ear up, 1 down turned out to be camera-shy |
Dogs playing poker and all manner of other games |
Whaddya think? Were the bunnies robbed? Was there a little mischief there? I will say, as wooly balls go, they were very nice wooly balls. Very uniform. I've rarely seen nicer wooly balls.
In Other News
In non wooly-ball and non-fluffy bunny news, I'm guest blogging Monday on the Scribbling Divas blog, talking about following your head versus following your heart. Stop by there if you have a sec and want to hear about one time I (usually a head-following gal) decided to ignore the ol' brain.
Oh yay! I really have no idea the difficulty of felted pool balls vs. felted bunnies are, but I must say that even though I'm a fan of pool the bunnies are still way cooler. I'm also a bigger fan of bunnies though... Congratulations! Maybe you can try cats next year?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm just mischiefing myself a bit today. I think making 16 perfect little wool balls must be pretty hard! The bunnies weren't really robbed.
DeleteWe have made a cat once. They are hard cuz they have those pointy ears. Pointy is hard in felting!
Those felt doggies are so cute! You really are talented! And that bigwhite fluffy bun bun is just priceless!
ReplyDeleteI never saw such a fluffy bunny before. So cute!
DeleteWell done on both your prizes. Well deserved. We are enjoying the book very much and we will do a review. We let you know when. Excellent read. Have a marvellous Monday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
Oh, hooray! Thank you so much!
DeleteCongratulations. Very well done. I bet people enter several years before doing so well. I hope you enter something next year because I bet it will be really creative.
ReplyDeleteWe're tossing around ideas for next year. But gotta find out what the theme is!
DeleteCongrats on that Best of Division!!! Well deserved! And, I hate to say it, but your bunnies were robbed. Yeah. Even with extra points for the game theme, those wooly balls are no match at all for your bunnies!
ReplyDeleteClicked the link to your Scribbling Divas article and was taken to a page of "most recent articles" where I couldn't find yours. :-(
DeleteLooks like it's there now. Thanks for checking!
DeleteThe bunnies were DEFINITELY robbed! I cannot believe the wooly balls won. Seriously?
ReplyDeleteBTW - I never knew you felted. I am so impressed with you and your sister's work! I agree with your friend, you HAVE to compete next year.
I want to do a post one of these days w/ some How-To info. We just started 2 years ago. It's fun.
DeleteCongrats on that big blue ribbon! Yeah! You definitely deserved it.
ReplyDeleteAs for the woolly balls - meh. I think there was some behind the scenes mischief there!
Oh, it's me whose the mischievous one! I think it would be harder to make the balls than the bunnies. They beat us fair and square! (Oh, fair and round, I guess...)
DeleteThe bunnies definitely had a lot more charm that the pool table theme! You were robbed.....
ReplyDeleteProbably harder to make 16 pool balls though than 3 bunnies. (Not sure how the rules work for that though... It said you could have 5 items in a set. Not sure now what that rule really means.)
Deletethose felted doggies were beautiful..how talented you are!
ReplyDeletestella rose
Oh, thank you!
DeleteJust noticed the Rastafarian crocheted afghan in the case with the dogs. So Aunt Mary! Guess I was too busy jumping around with excitement (and I didn't even win!) to notice that. I may enter a cross-stitched something next year just to get "easy access" to fair food.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't noticed that either. Too funny.
DeleteAnd, yes, the easy acccess to fair food is important!
Besides achieving your "pinnacle of success" it's just fun to be part of the fair and all the traditions that go with county fairs.
ReplyDeleteYes, it was super fun. Been wanting to do it for years and finally did!
DeleteWell since we are animal lovers here, I would say the bunnies where way better than the balls.
ReplyDeleteI prefer bunnies over balls too - but I gotta admit, those balls were probably hard to make!
DeleteMy bunny has wooly balls.
ReplyDeleteMaybe next year we'll make bunnies with wooly balls.
DeleteWill they be interactive? Bunnies with wooly balls don't do any good if they aren't interactive.
DeleteCongratulations...the bunnies might have been robbed, but maybe they won just on the theme? Still giggling about "Were My Wooly Balls Robbed"
ReplyDeleteOh good - love to make people giggle. Heehee! :)
DeleteI want to go and see the real wabbits! I think the bunnies were much better, no question, than those silly wooly balls!
ReplyDeleteThe bunnies (the wooly ones) were probably easier to make though than those wooly balls. I gotta admit!
DeleteAnd the real rabbits - well, they were cute as could be! There were some HUGE rabbits there. It was fun to check them out.
Jackie, you need to let go of those wooly balls. Just let go. ;)
ReplyDeleteBesides, when else in life will you get to say that you were bested by wooly balls?
Okay, now I can't let the wooly balls go.
But yeah, First Place in category and then ultimately Best of Division for your dogs... then Third Place for your bunnies... you should definitely enter again next year!! You just started two years ago? Some of your competitors have probably been doing it a lot longer, so clearly you and your sis have some crazy inborn talent for felting.
Yes, you are right! I've got to let go of the wooly balls! Heehee.
DeleteWe have always been crafty, but yeah we just started 2 years ago. It's not that hard - once you get over all the initial times that you stab yourself!
Golden Congrats again. It's the yellow hydrant that made it special. WOW! You gotta to do it again ... I don't like the bunnies invading my yard but do like bunnies than those balls. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar
ReplyDeleteYou would definitely like these bunnies, Sugar - they smell like sheep!
DeleteOkay, well it seems to me the tiny bunnies required far more work and skill than those big hairy er...wooly balls. But that's just me. I think you should continue to challenge yourself, plus it seems for a $7 entry fee, it's a win-win. :-)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the best of Division, that is quite an accomplishment!!
I don't know - i never tried to make a big hairy, er, wooly ball before, so I'm not sure how hard it would be. Making one is probably not that big of a deal, but making 16 uniform ones is probably a pretty good challenge. I think she deserved to beat the bunnies - even if the basket o' bunnies is chock full of CUTE!
DeleteHi Jackie,
ReplyDeleteDo you think maybe it was a complete balls up? Tee Hee
I'm sure the bunnies would agree :)
I think you should definitely enter next year or it's a waste of your talent! :)
Great job,
Your pal Snoopy :)
I'm insanely tempted to Google "Were my wooly balls robbed?" but I'm afraid of what I might get...
ReplyDeleteLove the dogs - congrats on the Best of Division!
Yes - I thought the same about googling that!
Delete(Sorry this was lost in 'moderation' for a few days!)
