Purpose of trip:
The purpose of my trip was my annual visit to the region to see bird species that are not found on a regular basis in Essex or East Anglia, particularly summer migrants.
Primary target areas:
The primary target areas for birdwatching were:
Ynys-hir RSPB reserve, Ceredigion
Pont Croesor RSPB Glaslyn Osprey Project, Gwynedd
Nant Ffrancon valley, Snowdonia, Gwynedd
South Stack RSPB reserve, Anglesey
Fedr Fawr, Anglesey
Cemlyn, Anglesey
Getting there and getting around:
I used my own car for the whole trip.
On the Friday night of 7th May, I stayed at the Travelodge in Wolverhampton to enable an early start to the journey to mid Wales the next day
On the 8th May, I stayed at the Dragon B&B and (Chinese) Restaurant in Betws-y-Coed.
Weather:
The early Saturday morning was very rainy but this gradually died out as I travelled west in to Wales. By the time I reached Ynys-hir, the sun was shining brightly. The remainder of the weekend was very sunny albeit rather chilly in the wind.
