Landon lucks out every year that he can celebrate his birthday at this party.
It's safe to say we all end up in a sugar coma.

Landon's Letter- Oct 26th

October 26, 2010

Today was my first day as a Weblos scout. It was so fun to know I was the oldest in all the Cub scouts. (With an exception of four other people.) Today we learned about being a “grease monkey”. Despite it’s mediocre name, it is actually a very hard job to do.

First, you have to learn everything about a car, and how it works. Driving a car is easy, but to be a grease monkey, not so much. The #1 thing you have to learn is to memorize everything beneath the hood. Under the hood, you will find things like windshield wiper fluids or oil. What keeps in the oil is a thing called a dipstick. Pull the dipstick out and hey! You got oil.

During that same second I saw that the so-called “oil” was actually Carmel brown. I asked the Weblos leader why it was not black. She said that oil, at first was black, but when it is filtered it is a Carmel shade of brown.

We also learned how to change a car tire. At the end, I found it was almost easier than changing a bike tire. I also learned how to check the air pressure in a tire. The tool to use was always what I thought to be a pen. There is this tube-thingy on the top that you put on some screw. A really small ruler popped out of the pen, and you check the PSI, and if the really small ruler is the same as the number of PSI, it’s perfect.

At the end of our time, the leader let us ride a dune buggy. At first I thought she was kidding me, so I decided to have some fun before she said no. But while I was doing it, I noticed she wasn’t yelling at me or chasing me. She just nodded in approval. At the very end, my mom drove me home to do this letter, and here I am now.

Scare-a-Crow Festival

We went to the Scare-a-Crow Festival at ThanksGiving Pointe. It was fun, but not worth going a second time. Here are some pictures of the kids enjoying the festivities. Enjoy.

Landon's Letter- Oct 19th

October 19, 2010

As you should know, we got two extra days off of school. Thursday and Friday, all I did was wait for my birthday on Saturday. My waiting options were, ride my NEW skateboard, play chess, or watch TV. Out of those 48 hours I learned how to do a 360, (on my skateboard.) I got so good at chess I could beat my dad, and I probably spent 5 of those 48 hours watching TV.
Before I knew it, it was my birthday. In the morning, my parents broke out the presents. I got a rocking Frisbee, two video games, a Snuggie, and a Bop It. Man, I played that thing for hours on my birthday. It was addictive, but my mom and dad HATED it. They thought it was so annoying I had to leave at home for the car ride to CornBelly’s. If you’re wondering about CornBelly’s, my mom let me have a choice to go to either a restaurant called Pirate Island with an All-You-Can-Eat Pizza Buffet, with an arcade, or an amusement park called CornBelly’s.

When we came home, my parents gave me a birthday cake with ten candles. I blew them out, knowing, I would never see single digits again.

Landon's Double Digit Day

Landon is 10!!

Since most of the Grandparents are several miles away, the kids get a lot of mail on their birthdays. It's nice actually, because sometimes they end of getting a present every day for a week.

A gift card from Grandma & Grandpa James

A shirt and good 'ol cash from Grandma Palmer

And then on his actual birthday- gifts from his family.

He was literally covered in gifts.

Including this skate board that Emma bought with her own money.

Such a sweet sister!

And we can't forget the Ice Cream Cake.

Yum.

What can I say about my only son?
There just aren't enough words.

He is smart, handsome, generous, funny, and a good friend.

I love his eyes, his curly hair, and his genuine smile.

I love how creative and thoughtful he is.

I just adore everything about him!

Happy Birthday Lo Lo!

Crying Wolf!

Landon earned his Wolf tonight at Scouts. They had the military come and do a flag ceremony so the boys can see how it's really done. It was fun to watch how precise they were and how much respect they show for our country.

I'm so proud of Landon and how hard he works at Scouts. He's such an amazing young man!

Pinewood Derby Take Two

This was our second year of the Pinewood Derby. Last year we took last place on the track, but 1st place in looks. That's like telling a chick that she's fat, but she has a pretty face. Not cool. This year, I really wanted Landon's car to at least make it past the first round. I still had no clue about how to make a car, so I solicited some help from my secret weapon. The end result was a basic blue car that had wheels that actually worked.

Oh...and it was super fast.

He won first place!

He's such a stud.

Fixin' the Mountain

This helicopter spent most of the day dropping seeds on our mountain hoping to see some re-growth next Spring. It was pretty cool to watch and I am so happy they are spending so much to fix it up!

Landon's Letter- October 8th

The Herriman fire finally got out, but my mom couldn't stand the smell. It almost gave me asthma. The whole house was covered in ash. Because the Palmers couldn't live under these conditions, we we to Camp Williams to ask for their help. After waiting twenty minutes for a sergeant, he said he would hire a cleanup crew and he would pay for it. The cleanup crew weren't exactly "Daisy Maids". They were actually workers for AAA insurance. They didn't have little toilet brushes or washclothes; they had fancy machines, ladders, and sprays. The fanciest thing they did was put in an oxygen machine that sucked out all the smoky air. But the only problem with that is the smoky air is the only air, so my family went to St. George so we could survive that lack of oxygen. Other besides eating a Pop Tart nothing else was too interesting.

Sincerely,

Landon
