BLO Mini Christmas Stockings
I have a new mini Christmas stocking pattern to share here at My Recycled Bags. This stocking is crocheted all in the back loop only or BLO as the commonly known abbreviation in the crocheting world.
The pattern can be worked in worst weight yarns for a 6 inch long stocking from top to toe. Or if you use an Aran or light weight yarn, the stockings measure about 5.5 inches long using a G (4 mm) crochet hook. I have shared a few photos here of the basic pattern, but feel free to crochet this pattern in stripes, work the first few rounds of the toe in a different color or even make a scrap yarn stocking by crocheting a mash of colors.
As always, here is the free BLO mini Christmas stocking pattern for your crocheting pleasure.
BLO Mini Christmas Stocking Pattern
6 inch long stocking with Red Heart WW yarn
5.5 inch long stocking with Aran yarn
G (4 mm) crochet hook
Pattern uses less than 1 ounce of total yarn
This stocking should be crocheted in the back loop only (BLO) unless otherwise directed.

Chain 4 and join to form a circle.
Rnd 1: Work 6 SC in the circle. Do not join. This pattern is worked in the round without joining unless otherwise directed.
Rnd 2: Working in the back loop only (BLO), 2 SC in each stitch. (12 SC) No need to join. Use stitch marker if needed.
Rnd 3: 2 SC in each stitch. (24 SC)
Rnd 4-10: 1 SC in each stitch. (24 SC)
Slip out hook from last stitch to begin the heel. I leave my yarn uncut which saves on the amount of ends to weave under later.
Option:
If you do not want to change yarn color for the heel, just start the heel at this point and once you complete the 5 rows for the heel, join at the back of the heel with a slip stitch to continue with the leg portion of the stocking. Again this saves on the number of ends you have to weave under.
Heel
Row 1: With new contrasting color (if desired), attach yarn in next stitch after the loop where you just slipped out your hook, SC in the next 12 stitches.
Row 2-4: Ch 1, turn. SC in each of the 12 stitches of the heel.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn. SC in the next 5 stitches of the heel, work 1 SC together (decrease) over the next 2 stitches, then work 1 SC in the remaining stitches of the row. This decrease at the center of the heel helps make a curved corner at the back of the heel.
Leave a tail to use to close the heel back. FO with the heel yarn and now you will be going back to the main body of the stocking to continue.
Close back seam of heel with a whip stitch or slip stitch now to make it easier to work around the heel stitches. Or you can close the heel later after you finish the stocking if you’d rather.
Leg:
Rnd 11: Slip the hook back into the stitch at the end of round 10. SC in each stitch along the heel edge which is the end of each row of the heel, continue SCs in each stitch of the main body of the stocking leg and back around to the edge of the heel where you started.
Tip: Because you are working along the edge of the heel for round 11, I found it easier to work regular SC into each stitch along the edge of the heel approx. 11 sts. Then I worked in the BLO of the main body of the leg. (total of about 24 sts on rnd)
Rnd 12-21: Working in BLO, SC in each stitch around. Again don’t join or turn. End round 21 at center back of stocking to begin last round and hanging loop.
Rnd 22: Join with new contrasting color at center back with a slip stitch, Ch 1 and SC in BLO around the top edge of the stocking. End at center back of stocking to begin the hanging loop.
Trim Option:
Work another round in contrasting color before crocheting the hanging loop for a different look.
Chain 10 for hanging loop and slip stitch into next stitch at back of stocking edge. Finish off and weave under ends.
