DC Comics have announced the return of the anthology series “Batman: Black and White,” which will be six issues long, each in the 48-page prestige format. Paul Dini & Andy Kubert, Emma Rios, Tom King & Mitch Gerads, and more are set to create stories for the series. There will be three covers per issue, a main and two variants, with Greg Capullo providing the main cover for issue #1, while Peach Momoko will create a villain variant featuring Talia al Ghul, and J.H. Williams drawing his version of the Caped Crusader.
“Batman: Black and White” allows creators to tell their own unique 8-page stories featuring the Caped Crusader, only using black-and-white artwork. The anthology series first debuted in 1996, running for four issues, and including stories by creators such as Ted McKeever, Neil Gaiman, and Klaus Janson. Two more volumes were collected using back up stories from “Batman: Gotham Knights,” before the fourth and most recent iteration of the series was launched in late 2013, with creators including Jeff Lemire, Becky Cloonan, and Adam Hughes.
“Batman: Black and White” #1 will be released in open and operating comic book stores and via digital platforms on December 8. You can see the two variant covers, the full list of announced creators, and preview panels from different stories over at DC Comics.
