AR15 Gun Light

Postby TiltMaster84 on Wed Feb 06, 2013 7:31 pm

I am trying to find a high quality gun light for my AR15. I am willing to spend some money (up to $150) on a quality light, but would prefer to find something that is reliable for under $100. Anyone have any suggestions? What is everyone using on their AR's.

get a good a mount for it and you are good to go. I had it on my rifle and it was great, the different color filters are very useful at night especially the red one so you don't lose your night vision.

What will you be using it for?

If there's a possibility you'll be using it in daytime, I'd go with a Surefire Fury.

If you want it for only night time, a Surefire G2X will be better. White walls will blind you at night with a Fury. Either will blind you if you're in a deep sleep and suddenly wake up and need to use it.

If you want to go all out, Surefire Scouts are really nice. Very lightweight and the beam dispersion is perfect. But it costs a lot.

Do you have a railed or standard hand guard?

Not my pic, but this is the basic setup I use.

Be careful about using lights that are too bright indoors, you will blind yourself and washout your optic if using a red dot. 65-120 lumens is more than sufficient for home use.

Awesome! At close range I would think 650 lumens would cause spontaneous combustion :D

Planning on using it indoors mainly to be mounted for home protection. I will definitely check out the surefire as I have heard good things about the brand. Thanks for you input

I read once you should always get 500 lumens or more. Is this incorrect?

Yes, ridiculous. By the way I like your setup. What light do you have?

AR15 Gun Light

My fenix tk22 was a 100 bucks with 2 rechargeable batteries and a charger. I think the mount was 13. It runs on 1 rechargeable battery. The 4 levels are 7, 75,250, and 650 lumens. It is ridiculously bright on 650 :)

I carry a Fenix PD32 that only goes up to 300 lumens and I really like it. I don't think the pressure switch works on this model but it's a standard body so should work with most rail mounts. Amazon has them down to $53 now.
