Generally Available: Vaulted backup for Azure Blob Storage

We are thrilled to announce that vaulted backups for Azure Blob Storage is now generally available. This native, managed, and secure backup solution keeps an offsite copy of your data and comprehensively safeguards your business-critical data stored in Azure Blob Storage against accidental deletion, corruption, and malicious attacks. It allows quick data recovery and business continuity, minimizing the impact of data loss. 

Vaulted backups can also help you meet compliance requirements through long-term retention and enhance the security of your backups, helping you recover your data even in cases of cyberattacks. The Azure Backup service offers extensive monitoring, alerting, and management capabilities, allowing for easy configuration and at-scale management of your vaulted backups via the Azure Business Continuity Center's single pane of glass. You can use vaulted backups along with the existing operational backup solution for blob storage as well. 

The general availability also brings the following enhancements to the vaulted backup solution: 

  1. Granular restores based on prefix match: You now have the flexibility to restore specific blobs based on prefix match from vaulted backups. It enables efficient restores, helping you resume business operations quickly. 
  2. Automation tools: You can now configure and manage vaulted backups using PowerShell, CLI, Rest APIs or Bicep template, along with the Azure portal. It empowers you to seamlessly incorporate backup tasks into your current DevOps pipelines. 
  3. Restricting data replication: You now have the capability to exclusively enable data replication to the Microsoft tenant for backup purposes. This helps you further reduce any risk of data exfiltration. 

Vaulted backup for Azure Blob is available in these regions. For information on detailed pricing, refer to the Azure Blob backup pricing page. Consistent with the billing experience we had in public preview, the Azure Backup protected instance fee and the vault backup storage fees are not currently charged, and will tentatively commence in October 2024.
