Traditional Red Barn Nestled In the Tall Grass

The prairie grass is sprinkled with Spring blooming Indian Paintbrushes, a perfect accent to the red barn.
Have you ever wondered why so many barns are painted red? In searching for the answers, I found so many theories, it is impossible to tell you all of them.

The funniest one I found was, "So a farmer's cows could find there way home".
If you would like to explore the other ideas, click HERE and read what Live Science has to say about the theory.

I love to tease with the camera...to make this shot, I sat down on the ground.

Waiting for Mail Delivery on Monday's Country Back Roads

It amuses me...... at the resourceful ways mailboxes are perched on a post.
Looks like this one has passed the test of time.

Have a lovely week, my dear readers.

Peaceful Country Setting for InSPIREd Sunday

The first building of St John the Baptist Catholic Church and school, opened in 1890. In 1906, it was destroyed from the far-reaching effects of a hurricane, in the Gulf of Mexico. Shortly after the church was re-built, it was destroyed by fire.

There must have been a vast amount of determination and faith in this community. The church building, in the photo, was built after the fire.

Not a cloud in the sky, with the warm sun shining down on this historical church.

In 2012, I photographed the beautiful hand-painted interiors. Please click HERE to re-visit that post. You won't be disappointed in the stenciled "pink" ceiling.

Spring has definitely arrived on the prairie, with the native redbuds in full bloom.
Happy Palm Sunday.

Feeling the Sunshine for Friday Fences

Spring has arrived on The Prairie.....

A favorite word of mine is "new green". About the middle of March it begins to show-up along the countryside.

It's so easy to get distracted with the scenery, when traveling the narrow country roads of the Prairie. There is always a chance, when you reach the top of the hill, you will be met by a large tractor. Even with an oncoming car, you must pull over onto the grass, to make it possible to pass.

Ohhhh.... how good the sun feels today !
