Google Python Team Entirely Laid Off, Flutter Team Also “Facing the Axe”

Google’s good news and bad news came very suddenly.

Last Friday, Google’s parent company Alphabet unveiled its first-quarter financial report: revenue reached $805.39 billion, marking a 15% increase from the same period last year’s $697.87 billion, making it the fastest growth since the beginning of 2022. Interestingly, while Meta’s stock plummeted by 15% upon releasing its earnings report, Google officially joined the “2 Trillion Club”!

Alphabet has long been heavily invested in AI, integrating generative AI features into its search and various services. During the earnings call, Google CEO Sundar Pichai emphasized the critical role of AI, stating, ‘Our leadership in AI research and infrastructure, coupled with our global product footprint, prepares us for the next wave of AI innovation.’

Therefore, it’s hard to comprehend: with such a steadfast investment in AI, why would Google suddenly lay off its entire Python infrastructure team?!
