Family Day

We took some time and ventured up north to a local apple farm. They were having a Military Appreciation day (which is always nice!) Everything was free! It was such a nice chill drive, looking at all the fall colors in the trees, listening to some Isaac Russell. A beautiful, picturesque sunday with my little loves.
When we got there we got hot apple cider, a free bag to fill with apples. We took a ride up the hill to go through and pick our own apples. They had face painting and pumpkin decorating for the kids. Not to mention THE BEST apple crisp and ice cream I have ever had! YUM!!!! I'm still dreaming about it.. I have a huge sweet tooth... like seriously huge! By the way honey crisp apples are probably the best in case you were wondering. I also got some cute shots of Little Miss who is such a little model these days! She is constantly asking me to take her picture. Love her little sweet cheeks! It was a nice family day!

Fashion Friday

It's that time again Fashion Friday! Love burgundy jeans for Fall. I really just love this color period all year long!

Went out with a friend of mine to see Pitch Perfect tonight it was really awesome! If you have ever seen Sister Act 2 it's a little similar to that. It was really funny and made me want to break out into song the whole way home. ( I didn't though :) ...maybe next time) So go see it! It's fabulous!

{Painted Furniture}.... continued & Awkward and Awesome Thursday!

Finally! I think we have been working on this desk for a few months. It felt like years honestly. So tedious and discouraging when I couldn't get it to come out right. But now here it is! (There's still a little touch ups to be done) I think it turned out great. It reminds me of a an old sea captains desk for some reason ...haha! This room isn't finished yet, maybe I will post those pictures on another post.

Awkward: While walking to our car in the parking lot we saw a squirrel on top of the car next to us. The moment that I noticed the drivers side window was open was the same moment that squirrel started inching its way closer. I totally said in my head "Don't you do it squirrel!" That squirrel didn't listen and made its way into this ladies car! I kinda freaked ... Um how am I going to get this squirrel out of that car ? Should I just walk away forget I ever saw it? Luckily the squirrel was smart enough to climb back out the window. Such a random thing right? Would have been kind of hilarious to have seen a squirrel in the passengers seat while getting into your car though.

Every time I walk around with the husband while he is in his uniform people always shake his hand; thank him for his service. It's not so much awkward for me as it is for him. I think it's awesome! It's nice to see civilians appreciate the hard work and sacrifice that these soldiers make on a daily basis. It's also kind of like being married to a celebrity.. he's so pretty and popular.

Awesome: Little Miss is finally potty trained!!! After a year and some change she's finally done! Now on to preschool. (Why is preschool so expensive?) It's been a good but busy week.

DIY {Painting Furniture}

I love painted furniture! I love taking something old and making it look brand new, black or white or color. I just want to go through everyone's house and just paint everything!
But I guess I gotta stick with my own stuff for now. I was lucky to have been given a lot of good pieces over the years. A dresser, a desk, a chest/table, a few nightstands and this awesome desk.

Our first attempt at painting furniture was in 2007. I wanted to paint the dresser and nightstands black. The husband thought we could just spray paint them and be done with it. They came out ok but the paint has peeled since and the damaged wood shows through.

Alright no biggie on to the second attempt. In 2010 I researched tutorial videos online figured we should sand this time on the chest, use primer and get a can of paint. The video however had me use a roller as well as no real sandpaper rules. Don't just use a 120 grit.. you must use a 220 fine grit paper too if you want a nice smooth surface! Hmmmm that would've been good to know. So now I have a lovely black chest/table in the front entryway with this yucky texture.. Can anyone say REDO!? yeah next project for sure.

So fast forward to now. I wanted to repaint this desk so badly; so I was determined to get the method right! Everywhere I looked online it was all about the spray painting. That's what we did, I sanded because the table was peeling in places had a bunch of scratches etc. Again forgot about the fine grit sandpaper, and got annoyed with the scratchy surface. Spray primer went on fine, then on to the black spray paint... oops got YELLOW instead! I just can't win can I!!?? Got black and then it got all drippy not sure what the problem was we bought several different brands. Still only got drippy spray paint no matter how long we shook the can.

Below is a couple of the before pictures.

with the Spray Primer

Did not sand the drawers and got this little bubbling/cracking effect

Scratchy surface with bad spray paint that just dripped everywhere

Both of these did not work could've been the humidity not sure

Drippy spray paint is not pretty

Re-Sanding it with the correct sandpaper grit

Opted for a can of primer and a can of paint
I will be posting the after pictures soon, all prettied up for you guys!

Fashion Friday

It's almost October and the weather has been so tricky. One day it's between 65-75 degrees and sunny other days its gloomy or rainy. I don't want to jinx it, I'm really afraid of what the snow will be like out here. I have heard horror stories of the snow being taller than people! Yikes!

Had a weird week, just been kinda lazy. Hopefully next week will be a lot better. I'm excited about decorating for fall and Halloween. I've convinced the family to coordinate costumes with me this year since I didn't get to wear my costume last year! :(  Hopefully get to some farms to pick out pumpkins and pick apples; make a homemade pie! Look who's all fancy! We are only here for three years so I'm going to do everything and anything while we are here!

Little Miss Fashionista had to get in on it too wanted me to take her picture. Like mother like daughter right?

Finally Fall Shows are back!

The husband and I are pretty big TV connoisseur's! I am a little like Tori Spelling in that way. I would love if I could have a tv in every room. A cute little tv in the kitchen while I cook or clean. I would love to have a tv in my room. Especially for those sick days where you just want to watch movies all day in bed. However, I am forbidden to have a TV in the bedroom.. husbands rules!

Anyways, as old favorite shows have ended or have been cancelled. It's time to move on and find some new ones to fill up the week.

New Shows:

Ben and Kate - Has potential to be randomly funny which is what I like. So we will see by the next episode.

The Neighbors: A little dated if you ask me. They try with newer references and what not. Just seems kinda silly.

Go on: New Matthew Perry show. Someone who loves FRIENDS it is so hard to get into a show where "Chandler" carries it on his own. I miss the friends cast, their chemistry was so natural and believable. So this is a maybe we will see how the season progresses.

Revolution: JJ Abrams new show. I never watched Lost. However, we are huge Fringe fans! Sadly it is Fringe's last season so we had to move onto something! It is an interesting concept, but I am still a little skeptical. It comes off a little cheesy, but if you like that "end of the world, people acting strange to survive" then this is right up your alley!

Partners: I didn't like it. Felt like they were trying too hard to be like Will & Grace and did not succeed. I tried it because I love Sophia Bush! But I just don't buy her dating David Krumholtz (Numbers, The santa Clause, 10 things I hate about you).

Fashion Friday {Fall is here}

I think it's safe to say fall is here, or slowly creeping up on me! It is slowly dropping degrees and I'm getting cold. I'm not really complaining because I am not a huge fan of the humidity out here.
I'm in love with these chunky knit infinity/eternity scarves! They are so cozy! Top knots or buns whichever are one of my faves too! Happy Friday everyone!
