Valentine’s Day Verse (Limerick & Haiku Prompt)
Valentine’s Day is coming up — an ideal topic for my very overdue limerick and a haiku (senryu) prompt. First, my limerick:
St. Valentine’s Day’s coming soon.
It’s a choc’late and rose-sellers’ boon.
Will your loved one come through
And make festive ado?
Or just buy you a five-buck balloon?
And now my haiku (senryu):
St. Valentine’s Day—
One day each February?
No. Daily each year.
Now, of course, it’s your turn. Your assignment, should you choose to accept it, is to write some verse about Valentine’s Day. When you’ve posted your poem(s), please return here and add a direct link to your themed poetry, using Mr. Linky. And please post a comment as well.

Let’s here it for ‘festive ado’!
I enjoyed your poetry, and thank you for the prompts, Mad. :)
If Holly reads back here again, I don’t see how to leave a comment on her blog. I don’t want to configure Outlook to email a comment. :(

Valentine’s Day
a lone christmas star
over the table

mid-february date
the right dark chocolates
elude me

Ok, this is fun. I thought about it all the way to school today and ended up getting one finished on the way there and another on the way home. But the…
Haiku eludes me
and a Valentine offering
proved impossible!
Hi, I’ve posted the wrong permalink the first time I’m entered in mr Linky.
I’ll try again!!!
Hi Mad, love the humor (humour GB) in your verses, as ever!
Thanks for the prompt and Happy Valentine’s day to you!
$5 for a balloon! Love doesn’t come cheap!
365 x 5 = whatever – it’s well worth it.
Thanks for your kind words and your Valentine’s Day verse. And please keep them coming!
Thank you for sharing your always-clever verse, and for giving us a chance to share with one another. Happy Valentine’s Day!
Hi, Madeline. Here’s one I just happened to have hanging around in a Word file:
The essay for Valentine’s Day
Was “I Miss You When You Are Away.”
When he’d finished, Jake snored
Till they shook him, then roared:
“I just slept with a miss-you essay!”
That’s funny – I just noticed I’m a year off!
Better late than never, Graham! :)
Valentine’s, you say?
Holy crap, is that today?
Rite Aid, here I come!
Love it, Jonathan!
I’m a romance-impaired female too, skeptic and single. Here’s my limerick posted on Valentine’s day.
Valentine and moonshine
Come February, stores woo you like valentine,
Ambush you to boost their bottomline,
They hustle groundnut oil
Even pitch aluminum foil
Will they beguile you with their moonshine?

Always nice to meet another romance-impaired woman. Thanks for your verse. :)
Loved both!
