CIPR Research Fellow Dr. Joey Mattingly shared his PBM expertise at a Congressional fact-finding hearing today. Check out the replay of his comments on this important topic!
Our Congress has a tough task ahead. They are evaluating several proposals related to Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) to address a number of different issues raised. I will be joining several researchers that I admire today, Richard Frank (Brookings), Karen Van Nuys (USC), and Tony LoSasso (DePaul) to participate in a fact-finding hearing on the Role of PBMs. It is an incredible honor to serve in this capacity. As I shared with staff prior to this hearing, I do not plan on taking any “side” for or against PBMs. I truly emphasize with all sides of this fight. I just want to help provide rich context involving history, economics, and basic practical considerations to help Congress think through the pros/cons of the legislation they are voting on. Join CIPR on July 29th at 11:00 CT for the next installment of our Journal Club webinar series. We will be discussing “Gender X and Auto Insurance: Is Gender Rating Unfairly Discriminatory?” by Lorilee Medders, Jamie Parson, and Matthew Thomas-Reid. This paper evaluates the use of gender as a rating variable in auto insurance given 1) the potential for unfair discrimination; 2) the complexities of non-binary gender identity; and 3) the modern capability to more directly measure driving behavior using variables other than gender. Please review the article before the webinar and bring your questions and observations. A brief executive summary is provided at the beginning of the article for your convenience.
