Harnessing AI to transform the job search

Searching for a job can feel challenging, even lonely. LinkedIn has long offered tools to assist you in the job search, including advanced search capabilities, simplified ways to network, and the ability to signal to recruiters you’re open to work. Late last year, we started testing new AI-powered insights that take the guesswork out of the job search – these insights offer personalized takeaways and tips, helping you instantly assess your fit for a job based on skills, interests, and preferences and get advice on how to stand out. Over 90% of subscribers told us they found these AI-powered features helpful. Now, we’re bringing this to all Premium subscribers worldwide in English.

Additionally, to further enhance the efficiency in job search, today we’re announcing the following new features in LinkedIn Premium:

(1) Discover the right job more easily with conversational job search

Now you can look for jobs using intuitive and conversational language – such as “Find digital marketing jobs in San Francisco that pay more than $100,000” – instead of solely using traditional search filters like job title or location. Search across titles, locations, skills, companies, workplace types, salary, and industry while looking for jobs in your network and let the tool do the heavy lifting to make your search process faster, easier and more intuitive.

(2) Quickly find the right information on a role with redesigned job details

Job details pages can sometimes feel overly lengthy and crowded with information that can often result in your overlooking positions that may be a good fit. Our new redesigned job pages simplify and highlight the information that matters most to you and give you an AI-powered assessment to help you understand your fit for the role.

Now you can find the essential details front and center by instantly seeing whether a job matches your preferences, understanding how your skills and qualifications match up, and seeing people you can reach out to in your network for your job search, empowering you to quickly assess and decide whether you’d like to apply. This redesigned job details will be available to all LinkedIn members.

(3) Apply with quality and ease using personalized resume feedback and cover letter drafts

We heard from our members that tailoring a resume and cover letter for a role is one of the most frustrating pain points in job seeking – in fact, 47% of professionals on LinkedIn agree creating a compelling resume feels like the biggest challenge during job hunting, and 53% agree writing cover letters is a huge pain point in the job search process. What’s more, a majority of professionals on LinkedIn are open to using AI to enhance resume content (64%) and draft their cover letter (66%).

That’s why we’re launching new AI-powered resume feedback and cover letter drafts to help ease the experience of applying to roles where your experience and skills align. Resume feedback helps you create a tailored resume for a specific role by enabling you to upload a resume you’d like to enhance and receive insights and feedback on how you can best stand out. You can then make edits interactively with AI before exporting the resume and attaching it to your application.

Our new cover letter feature helps you draft a personalized cover letter from scratch with the help of AI, which you can then review and edit as necessary for your application. When you are a good fit for a role, the resume and cover letter features can help bring your relevant skills and experiences front and center, enabling you to make a good first impression.

Finally, we're also releasing an exciting new feature for all LinkedIn members - If you’re just getting started with your profile and don’t yet have your experience added, you can now automatically upload your resume to LinkedIn and, using generative AI, we’ll help you with drafts to populate the most important sections of your profile.

Generative AI tools have the potential to increase the efficiency in the job search process to a level not previously possible. However, companies hire people, not AI tools, and our hope is that these tools help your skills and experience take centerstage. We’ve built these features so you can focus your energy on finding the best job for you, rather than taking a one size fits all approach.

In fact, we’re hearing from job seekers that they have changed how they search for roles, focusing on quality – where they’re a fit – rather than on quantity of applications. This feedback has been very encouraging - especially because we’re only just getting started.

We hope you find these updates useful. We’d love to hear from you on any feedback you have for us along the way on jobseeker-feedback@linkedin.com
