An Iowa native, Shenae knows there aren’t many Black female LGBTQ+ coders like her to learn from, particularly around the Cedar Valley. Through UrbanDevelopers, she wants to teach the skills of the future to kids that otherwise would not have the chance to see those opportunities for themselves. Shenae does this through mentoring, tutoring, and teaching classes such as Code Club and Girls Who Code. She sells her art and relies on donations to provide these services for free to the community. 🚀🩵 #blackwomenintech #techcommunity

One thing I'm asked about most often is book recommendations, so I'm excited to be able to share about Hope in a Box, now a project of Advocates for Youth. They offer curated book lists centering the stories of LGBTQ+ people and their experiences to support classroom inclusion and learning about our diversity of lived stories. And! Educators can apply to get tiers of support from Hope in a Box - from peer support, to dissemination of book lists and curricula, to capacity-building training. Apply to access these resources below! This experience is designed for anyone of any identity, knowledge level, and role as an educator (i.e., teachers, counselors, librarians, etc. of any grade). #sexed #healtheducation #educators #librarians

“Keep your money local. Keep your money queer.” Yesterday, I talked about creating software at #HumanScale. For the last six months, I have spent my spare time doing just that. And now I am finally sharing about it here. Pink Wallet is a subscription platform I am running as a local business. Registering a domain name, pushing up commits, starting social media accounts… it’s all like the sense you get from opening up a fresh box of crayons. A world of possibilities awaits! In this time, I have learned so much from my local LGBTQ+ community. Features I thought were great ideas didn’t work out. And features I had not considered at all have come from everywhere! There is still a lot of work to be done. And there always will be work to be done. But soon, I will be making a major push to get my local community on the platform. And now you will get to learn more about it in the weeks and months ahead! Post 3/5 #GlamshellCareerShift #startup

⚡ Did you know The Legalmiga Library™️ is dedicated to making an impact on our justice system? ⚡ 😊 We want to make legal protections more accessible to small business owners through education and the accessibility of our legal templates, courses, and resources. 😮 But we also recognize that if we want to truly effect change that will benefit the greater good, we must commit to furthering the efforts to diversify the field of law as a whole. As of January 1, 2021, we donate 5% of all profits to L.E.A.P. (Legal Education Access Pipeline), a fellowship program supporting students who are historically underrepresented in the legal field: people of color, people who identify as LGBTQ+, first-generation college students, and people who are socioeconomically-disadvantaged. ✨ #lawyersoflinkedin #smallbusinesssupport #smallbusinesslawyer

Queer and trans college students are far less likely to have financial (or emotional!) support from their families than their straight or cis classmates. They may not be able to take as many classes, or as challenging of a course load, because they have to work more hours just to stay afloat. The financial burden is profound, and many students simply do not complete their degrees. Scholarships like ones from the Rainbow Chamber Foundation give students much-needed money for whatever they need to complete their education. And just as importantly, it gives students the confidence that someone is in their corner. This #BDOG, donate to the Rainbow Chamber Foundation to help LGBTQ+ students thrive! https://lnkd.in/grDfQHCg (Source: https://lnkd.in/gHH74ya5) #lgbtq #lgbtqeducation #LGBTQRights #LgbtqScholarship #RainbowChamber #SACLGBTQ #Sacramento #SacramentoOG #Scholarship #TransRights #TransRightsAreHumanRights

Sometimes, LinkedIn feels like Facebook. I know this post may seem like I am dipping into that channel, but I believe it is important to share the following (professionally, that is) for those who read this and are concerned about the trajectory of K-12 history and social studies education. #lgbtq #historyunerased #ushistory #socialstudies #representationmatters https://lnkd.in/eutG7rY9
New England Biolabs Foundation has granted History UnErased another round of funding in support of our mission of putting LGBTQ history in its rightful place - the classroom. On behalf of all of us at History UnErased, we extend our profound gratitude to NEB. Their support ensures thousands of students, each year, will learn a more complete story of America that is LGBTQ-inclusive in their mainstream history and social studies classrooms. "The work that History UnErased does to help build a better future is inspiring to NEB, thank you for your efforts." - NEB Corporate Donations Committee Learn more about us and our incredible team here: https://lnkd.in/eVUV9yRk Learn more about the curriculum here: https://lnkd.in/eB6z8PB #lgbtq #historyunerased #ushistory #socialstudies #representationmatters

If your employee resource group (#ERG) has Q1/Q2 budget to spend, I invite you to support local LGBTQ+serving organizations- particularly those focused on youth. The brutal beating and death of Nex, a 16 year nonbinary child, was preceded by anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, anti-trans school district policies, anti-trans school policies, and the firing of vocally LGBTQ+ supportive teachers from their public school. That’s 4 levels of systemic supports that not only failed to protect Nex, but were actively weaponized against and/or stripped away from them and their peers. I’ll continue giving to Twin Cities- based organizations below to ensure that Queer youth have access to identity affirming support. I encourage you to comment with additional orgs in your area where ERGs or individuals can donate or volunteer: Family Tree - community clinic PFund Foundation - scholarships RECLAIM - mental health access Avenues for Youth - for unhoused youth Out in Tech - career mentorship

LGBTQ and BIPOC students experience more financial and mental stress than their non-LGBTQ and non-BIPOC peers. On average, LGBTQ students owe $47,500 total in student debt compared to the non-LGBTQ average of $32,731. Fortunately, there are plenty of resources to help support LGBTQ and BIPOC students through living stipends, textbook costs, childcare benefits, and more. By supporting LGBTQ students through scholarships, you can help them succeed in college and their future careers. Browse the resources to get the support you need or to help a loved one: https://lnkd.in/g96Fpf_H #HigherEducation #LGBTQ #BIPOC

Please share: if you make a donation please leave a message about someone who you love who has experienced bullying. We're launching the campaign For a national database of bullies during Pride Month. The majority of LGBTQ youth (52%) who were enrolled in middle or high school reported being bullied either in person or electronically in the past year. One in three (33%) reported being bullied in-person (e.g., at school, on the way to school, at a party, or at work), while 42% were bullied electronically (e.g., online or via text message). Bullying was reported more often by LGBTQ middle school (65%) compared to high school students (49%). Transgender and nonbinary students (61%) reported higher rates of bullying compared to cisgender LGBQ students (45%). Those who were Native/Indigenous (70%), white (54%), and multiracial (54%) reported higher rates of being bullied compared to those who were Latinx (47%), Asian American/Pacific Islander (41%), or Black (41%). https://gofund.me/da7274f0
