Key insights on the physical demands of the 2022/2023 UEFA Champions League ahead of the first knockout stage matches tonight. 📊 How did the physical intensity of the 2022/2023 UEFA Champions League knockout stage compare to the qualification & group rounds? 💡 The physical output increased as the competition progressed. Across all positon groups there was a 10% increase in the number of high intensity actions required by a player in the knockout matches compared to group matches. 📊 Was the increased intensity in the knockout stage driven by teams that lost matches trying get themselves back into a game? 💡 The increase in high intensity actions in the knockout matches applied to teams regardless of match outcome (win, loss, draw). Teams need to be able to compete & implement their style under increasing physical demands as the competition progresses.

How will the new Champions League change?
