The best performing safe-haven asset class of the last 35 years US Treasuries are often deemed the ultimate safe-haven. This status is not only put under scrunity by a rising debt / gdp ratio of the US government but Treasuries also turned out to have been a less attractive option for investors compared to #Gold. The yellow metal managed to outperform treasuries during the last 35 years, not at least thanks to the FED inflected bear market in bonds. We asked our CFO, Bill Dean what macroeconomic events influence the gold price and he shared four useful considerations for investors: 1️⃣ First is uncertainty, particularly geopolitical events causing global market instability. People see gold as a safe haven during times of market uncertainty. 2️⃣ Secondly, central banks worldwide looking to deleverage from the US dollar typically switch to gold. 3️⃣ Next is US Treasury rates and their inverse correlation to gold. 4️⃣ Lastly, we have 'contagion'. Gold is considered an attractive asset; increases in value can enhance its appeal and trigger a fear of missing out among investors. On the subject of junior miners being levered against gold price, price escalation and rising operational costs, due to inflation, are usually offset when weaker dollars tend to result in increased gold prices.
