Interested in exposure to food enzymes? tracing food enzymes through the food chain is challenging therefore EFSA has developed an integrated Food Enzyme Intake Model (FEIM) web tool. Now, The tool needs to be tested and finetuned!!! EFSA has just published a call for expression of interest for testing the Food enzyme exposure tool! Interested in the call? Have a look https://lnkd.in/dnq6q9iT #enzymes #efsa #foodsafety #europeancommission

brominated vegetable oil (BVO) in food, a vegetable oil that is modified with bromine will no longer be allowed as a food additive after August 2, 2024. BVO leaves residues of bromine triglycerides in body fat and fat in the liver, heart, and brain. Excessive bromine accumulation in the body results in bromine toxicity, which causes damage to the central nervous system, headaches, nausea, memory loss, and loss of coordination. The rule is effective on August 2, 2024, and manufacturers have one year from that date to "reformulate, relabel, and deplete the inventory" of their BVO-containing products. Many countries have already banned BVO England 1970’s, India in 1990s, European Union in 2008 and Japan 2010.
Today the FDA s revoking the regulation authorizing the use of brominated vegetable oil (BVO) in food, a vegetable oil that is modified with bromine. The agency concluded that the intended use of #BVO in food is no longer considered safe after the results of studies conducted in collaboration with the The National Institutes of Health found the potential for adverse health effects in humans. The FDA has regulated the use of BVO as a food additive since the agency removed it from the codified list of Generally Recognized As Safe or “GRAS” substances in 1970. The rule is effective on August 2, 2024. The compliance date for this rule is one year after the effective date. https://lnkd.in/eV96TWyB

A research consortium coordinated by LGC has made a big breakthrough in designing better #ReferenceMaterials for #FoodAllergens. 🥛 > The team succeeded in producing a kit - featuring milk, egg, hazelnut, almond and walnut - which is the first industrially and clinically relevant multi-allergen reference material traceable to SI. Find out more about the kit at https://okt.to/QDA2Fb > In this article, analytical chemist Michael Walker explains how he collaborated with LGC and others in developing the RM kit, the importance of allergen RMs in the food industry and the kit's applications. As mycotoxins and plant toxins are unevenly distributed in food, careful sampling is particularly important.
