The importance of the little things and feeling valued.
Shortly before beginning my position at Harris, I was at the grocery store and my ring doorbell went off. I viewed the camera and no-one was there so I went about my shopping. Shortly after, the doorbell went off as “motion detected” again and again. Each time I checked there was nothing out of the ordinary. After roughly 10 motion detected notifications, I grew concerned that something was wrong at the house. So, I quickly checked out and began the short drive home. All the while my doorbell was sporadically going off.
To my surprise, when I arrived home, there were flowers, a balloon (which was triggering the motion notification), and a lovely card waiting for me from my new team! It nearly brought me to tears as I had never received such a kind gesture as an incoming team member before! It was at that moment I knew I had made the right decision in choosing Harris as the company for me!
Lasting thoughts: Go where you will be valued, where you are not just a number, and where the mindset isn’t “it’s not personal, it’s business.” The truth is, it is personal. We spend a majority of our time in the workplace, it is our livelihood, and we should feel valued and heard everyday for our sacrifice of time and energy.
If you aren't feeling that in your current position....it's likely never going to change! When you start looking. Ask the right questions during your interview process about eNPS (if it’s negative, there is a reason, run 🏃🏻♀️), their turnover rate / how long has their avg team member been on board, Career Pathing, Room for Growth, all the things. Just as much as they are interviewing you, you should be interviewing them. Now go be happy 💕🤗
