What a week for Shadow fans! ❤️🖤
We were super excited to see Shadow's iconic bike make a reappearance in the #SonicMovie 3 trailer! But did you know that his bike was first named in one of our games? 👇
Steve Lycett, Franchise Development Director at Sumo Sheffield and Executive Producer on SEGA Superstars Tennis, Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing, and Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed shared his thoughts on the #SonicMovie3 trailer.
"In the original Shadow the Hedgehog game Shadow steals a G.U.N. motorcycle and you go racing down freeways.
We modified this bike for All-Stars Racing - where it got named the 'Dark Rider'. The film looks to have a new design, but Shadow and bikes are synonymous."
❓ What is Steve's fondest memory of working with Sonic IP?
"We were out for a meal with Sonic Team and I was describing how I still found it weird to see a game you'd made in a DVD case, years of work all nicely boxed up.
Iizuka-san (head of Sonic team) laughed and called me a noob!
Clearly he's shipped a LOT more games than I have!"
❓ What challenges did Steve and the team overcome while working with such a recognised IP like Sonic?
"Making sure everything is accurate to the original vision of a character when making an ensemble game is hard, but rewarding. We tried to make sure we snuck in loads of little details from SEGA games old and new.
"We're still approached by players calling out details and respecting the passion we had for getting the games as full of fan service as we did!"
After such an epic first glimpse of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, we can't wait for December!
In the meantime, why not check out those SEGA Easter eggs Steve mentioned in this #SumoRewind video featuring the man himself! 👉 https://bit.ly/3Z5bhnP
