Unpacking the after-effects of the pandemic. Young Gen Z is stepping into the job arena, yet they lack the conventional job references we've been accustomed to seeking. Entrusted with adult responsibilities, their formative years happened, not in bustling offices with a mentor shadow, but, alas, behind screens, confined at homes. What of internships, part-time gigs, or even the age-old opportunity of summer jobs for experience? These opportunities were few and far between. To ask them for recommendations could be asking too much, too soon. In my journey as CEO, I've learned that talent comes in different packages. Hiring managers should adjust their lens for viewing references. Focus, instead, on assessing talent for skills rather than past experiences. Through it all, Benskin & Hott Talent Partners have always believed in the power of partnership. We tailor unique talent solutions for clients, finding the right synergistic matches. It's about more than just skills, it's about synergy between personality and work styles. Getting the right talent isn’t about the count of experiences; it's about matching the right person with the right opportunity. Let's give Gen Z the right opportunities. No emojis, no titles, or hashtags needed. Just genuine connections, advice, and a visionary approach to solving the talent puzzle!

For many, getting that first job out of college isn’t easy. What has your experience been like? Crafting a résumé with the right mix of part-time jobs, internships, and extracurriculars to make up for lack of experience can be daunting — followed by navigating the social mores of interviews and thank you emails. Not hearing from recruiters is demoralizing and frustrating. The US’s newest crop of young professionals is entering the workforce at a time full of contradictions. The still-low unemployment rate should have employers scrambling to fill empty roles, but slowdowns in hiring and layoffs at marquee companies mean entry-level workers are competing with each other for a smaller number of positions. If you’re a recent college graduate trying to navigate the job market, we want to hear from you. 🌞 Make the Most of Summer ☀️ Believe it or not, summer is the perfect time to engage with a recruiter! Before the busy period kicks in with September, there's a golden window of opportunity you won't want to miss. Here's why: Firstly, with many professionals away on holiday, competition can be significantly lower. This could mean your CV gets that extra glance, and your application gets a bit more attention than during the frantic rush of autumn. Recruiters have more time to build a genuine connection with you, understanding your career aspirations and finding the perfect match. 🚀 Furthermore, many companies are in the planning stages of their end-of-year goals and projects. By establishing a relationship with a recruiter now, you could be at the forefront when those opportunities start opening up, ready to be recommended for roles that align with your skills and ambitions. 🌟 Don't wait until September's hustle and bustle to take the next step in your career. Seize the quiet of summer to align yourself with a top recruiter, and position yourself for success. I find that summer can be one of the most demoralizing times for job seekers. With fewer job postings and less feedback, it’s easy to feel discouraged. Remember, there are seasonal factors affecting the job market. From June through August, many HR managers and decision-makers are on vacation, and companies often avoid making major decisions that could lead to more hiring. However, the summer also offers a unique opportunity. With less competition for roles due to fewer people actively searching, it's an ideal time to polish your resume and make it stand out. Typically, job postings increase in September when everyone returns to work and kids go back to school. I recommend doing two things in August: 1. Spend less time searching for open roles, as fewer are posted. Instead, focus on refining your resume and LinkedIn profile, and customize your applications for the roles you do find. 2. Enjoy the summer! Spending time outdoors, with friends and family, and basking in the nice weather will help recharge you for the fall, when hiring activity picks up. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 👋 I'm Spencer Wishart, a Career Coach specializing in helping early-to-mid career professionals who are seeking a change, advancement, or assistance in landing their next opportunity.
