I thought I'd repost this informative article about the emergence of skilled trade interest among Gen Z'eers!! https://lnkd.in/eHagGyhi
The Wall Street Journal released an article today that is no April Fool’s joke detailing the increasing interest among Gen Z in trades jobs, such as plumbing and welding, highlighting the rewarding career paths these fields offer. It emphasizes the importance of considering trade professions post-high school and explores the significant contributions tradespeople make to industries like oil and gas. 🛠️🔥 Considering a career in the oil and gas industry? The trades sector plays an essential role in this dynamic field. From plumbing to welding, skilled tradespeople are the backbone of operations, ensuring everything runs smoothly. It's crucial to recognize the value and opportunities these careers offer, especially for the incoming generations. 🎓 High school graduates pondering their next steps should carefully consider trade professions. Choosing the right path post-graduation can significantly impact your future prospects and success. This insightful article sheds light on the rising trend of Gen Z's interest in trades jobs. 📰 Read more about the growing interest of trades in industries like oil and gas industry through the eyes of 18 year old George Belcher (great job, Jack Belcher). It seems like we’re entering an era where the significance of making informed decisions for post-high school education is changing and I’m here for it. College is great for some professions but trades are not a lesser choice. Let's empower the next generation to explore diverse career paths and embrace the invaluable opportunities awaiting them in the trades! 💪🔧 https://lnkd.in/gsk28WPd

Lots of interesting stats in this The Wall Street Journal piece on the rise of Gen Zers entering the trades, thanks largely to rising compensation and the erosion of a college degree's ROI. • Enrollment in vocational-focused community colleges grew by 16% last year • HVAC and car maintenance students increased 7% • Building trade school enrollees increased 23% • According to ADP, 2022 median pay for new construction hires rose 5.1% vs. 2.7% for those in professional services, the fourth year in a row that new hire pay in construction eclipsed compensation in a number of sectors occupied by knowledge workers. There's something else that's briefly acknowledged in the article, but deserving of more attention: trade work, more commonly known as "blue collar work", has been stigmatized for decades as a less prestigious or respectful form of employment. Aside from being completely false and misguided, this belief has had a deleterious effect on American politics and society. Overall, I think the increase in trade workers is a very promising trend for this country. cc: Scott Galloway

Vocational training in trades like welding will always be a solid path to follow. If you learn like I do, then the hands on approach is something to consider.

Helping Trades to stop the chase for project materials. Get what you want, when you want, where you want it.
Al is coming for your skilled trades job. They also said robots are coming for trade jobs as well. If that's the case then nothing would get fixed or built. You can't rely on technology or Alexa to fix your plumbing or electrical issues. This is why skilled trades will never be obsolete. 🤖👷♂️ We need to address the shortage of skilled tradespeople. In the next 5-10 years, tens of thousands will retire, taking their knowledge and experience with them. Encourage parents, guidance counselors, and teachers to support the trades. We need their help more than ever. Are you ready to help dm me, let's go. #skilledtrades #jointhetrades #bluecollar #STAC --------------------- ↗ Hey, I'm Andrew.
