Practice quality of PRESENCE > quality of QUESTIONS to have a great coaching conversation! #leadershipcoaching #coachingtips
Helping leaders stress less & lead more effectively | Coach & Co-founder at Noria | Ex-One Medical | Mom to three, 30 miles out to sea 🌊
I’ve been reading Claire Pedrick's 'Simplifying Coaching' and loving it. Her main premise is that coaching is far more simple than people make it out to be. This has been so validating! In an interview, she said that it’s much harder to monetize a simple approach to coaching - the money is in the complicated systems and fancy frameworks that are perhaps more confusing than anything. Yesss!! 👏👏👏 When I train people how to coach, I emphasize full presence as *the* most important skill. (And believe me, being fully present is hard enough.) New coaches always want a list of powerful questions on hand because they think the perfectly worded, preconceived question is what makes you an excellent coach - but this is a myth and a distraction. Full presence, active listening, deep noticing, and genuine curiosity create a great coaching conversation. Powerful questions naturally arise when you are in the flow of conversation. The most powerful ones are short and sweet and don’t interrupt that flow. When you are lost in your head trying to remember a great question or what the heck that acronym stood for - you lose your presence and do a disservice to the conversation. Coaching isn’t EASY (not at all) but it is relatively SIMPLE. Practice presence. Link to Claire's book if interested: https://lnkd.in/eSW4wRAP

Time for quick read? I really love this blog post, "Coaching Strategies for Wicked Problems," from CRR Global USA and Canada. It brings together complexity and coaching, two things I love! Here's a teaser from the blog post: https://buff.ly/3R0h7Bm "In addressing wicked problems, we become deeply aware of how actions in one part of the system can ripple across to affect another. The remedies filter across the system in the same way. A coaching engagement is one way to reveal the brilliance of the system in finding strategies." ~ Lisa

Author: Leading Below the Surface | Keynote Speaker | CXO Coach | Leadership Coach for Innovators | I coach and develop leaders to make an unforgettable impact + create workplaces that they are proud of 📌
I'm excited to make space for a few new 1:1 coaching clients -- scroll down for more info! I've learned and have been exposed to a lot during my six-year coaching journey. It was then that I enrolled in my first coaching class (at CTI, now Co-Active Training Institute). I started coaching right away -- mainly in a career coaching capacity, then I progressively expanded to managers, groups, executives, teams, and then organizations (which led to Change Coaches). One of my values is impact and, in 2024, I want to expand that, especially in a 1:1 and group coaching capacity (more on groups later). This is why I'm opening up my coaching practice to more individuals this year. Inspired by many of you, these newly structured 1:1 coaching tracks are based on the needs you have expressed the most. ✅ Leading in Today’s Workplace ✅ Growing into Your Executive Role ✅ Building a Culture of Belonging & Psychological Safety ✅ Navigating a “Glass Cliff” Setback ✅ Leading Below the Surface If any of these sound intriguing to you, let's chat! But, before that, I'm going to leave a link in the chat so you can learn more about how we might work together, outcomes, and all of the basics. If you are interested in these topics but want to do something more on a group level, stay tuned for more information about our accelerators which we will launch in the Spring (that's a whole different post)! I'm looking forward to connecting with some of you in the coming months! 🎉
