Helping Developers Contractors and Subbies make a success of their business using my experience of success and failure owning and running construction and development companies.
🔧 Why Do Client Relationships Get Messy in Construction? 🤔 In the construction world, client relationships can get pretty messy. And guess what? It's often the construction company's fault. Why? Because they don’t have a proper system in place. Without a solid plan, communication can get as clear as mud. Clients end up confused, not knowing what's happening with their projects or why there are delays. This lack of clarity makes them frustrated and upset. Then there's the issue of managing timelines and budgets. Without a good system, projects can go off the rails. Costs spiral out of control, and deadlines fly by. Clients end up pulling their hair out – and maybe yours too! Quality control? More like quality chaos without a system. Inconsistent work quality can leave clients disappointed and wondering if they hired the Three Stooges instead of professionals. And when it comes to handling client feedback, a lack of a system means small problems can blow up into big disasters. Clients feel ignored and unimportant, leading to some seriously awkward conversations – or worse, lawsuits. But don’t worry, there’s hope! By putting a proper system in place for communication, project management, quality control, and client feedback, you can turn those messy relationships into smooth, happy ones. Clear communication, transparency, consistent quality, and proactive problem-solving can turn clients from grumpy to grateful. 🏗️💼 #ConstructionSuccess #ClientRelationships #ProjectManagement #QualityControl #ClearCommunication #HappyClients #ConstructionIndustry #BusinessGrowth #SystemInPlace #ProblemSolved #CustomerService #BuildingTrust #ConstructionWins

One of the most common questions that we get is how to properly manage client expectations when they ask for a scope of work but then forget after you begin working with them. Here are our top tips to keep everything running smoothly: Set It in Stone: Always kick off projects with a crystal-clear, documented scope of work—signed by all involved. This is your blueprint! Keep Them in the Loop: Regularly remind your clients of the agreed scope. Use emails, meetings, and updates to keep everything transparent and on track. Document Dynamically: Use a shared, live document to note any scope adjustments. It’s your truth source, keeping everyone aligned and informed. Educate as You Go: Constantly educate your client on the project's process, reinforcing the scope and terms at each phase. Clarity is king! Flexibility Meets Firmness: Be understanding yet firm. If scope creep occurs, refer back to your documented agreements to clarify and confirm. Effective communication and a proactive approach are your best tools in managing client relationships and ensuring everyone is on the same page. Need more tips like this? One very interesting and delicate situations in client management is called “Scope Creep”. That is when the client asks you to do something which is not in the agreed upon scope. This is something extremely common in consulting where the project manager gets caught between delivering client value and overdelivering. In order to manage this, it is essential to keep some things in mind. 1. Ensure the work scope is documented clearly and signed off. 2. Set clear expectations with the client while communicating deliverables. 3. If you are delivering anything on top of the scope, make sure the client knows that. 4. Any significant request on top of the scope should either be officially added to the scope or deprioritized for the next phase. 5. Lastly, don’t be inflexible you can deliver in addition to the agreed scope for client delight, provided those are low hanging fruits. 🔁Hit REPOST if you found this valuable. ______________________________ Follow Divyanshu Madaan for more and press the🔔icon on my profile for notifications.

Sometimes I do out-of-scope things on a project. But not because I have too much time on my hands, or I'm a nice guy, but because ... A) the thing will probably need to get fixed anyway, so it's easier to get it done right away. B) makes the whole project smoother - it could mean less emails back and forth. C) it's an investment into client relationship, less friction = better relationship.
