Saw this post and felt it was a great question!
My opinion,
Attending job fairs should happen a few weeks after basic training!!
Okay, maybe I’m kidding, a bit!
There’s no reason someone shouldn’t be planning 3-5 years out. Whether it’s promotion within the ranks, jumping into a ranking system (enlisted to warrant to officer) or getting out to go to school/look for that next career.
The sooner service members learn what the civilian world wants (and doesn’t want), the sooner they can adapt and craft their own career points and milestones to reflect the trends.
Planning is critical to any major or substantial outcome. The absence of planning doesn’t guarantee failure, but adds substantial (and unnecessary) risk.
So hit up those job fairs, explore company websites and job boards, and find relevant voices in the career area, learn and educate yourself. When the big day comes, you’ll already be well prepared!
Great post Nathaniel Weaver!

How early is too early to start attending job fairs, in person or online for military folks transitioning from the service? I just don't want to shoot myself in the foot so to speak by trying to network now.
I push the button at end of the month to retire next year. In fact, this time next year I would be hopefully starting Skillbridge.
I already have a list of companies I plan on applying to in the Houston, Texas area too.
Thoughts?
