Even IKEA mocks Portugal. We are a disgrace. 🤦♂️ To all my International Network, please check this. Portugal is currently facing a political crisis. Basically, our previous government "jumped out of the boat" due to corruption scandals. One of which was the discovery of 75,800€ in cash in the office of Vítor Escária. This man was the Chief of Staff of our Ex-Prime Minister António Costa IKEA with Uzina launched billboards around Portugal, as you can see from the image, stating: “Boa para guardar livros. Ou 75,800€”. Which translates to: “Good to save books. Or 75,800€”. 💀 I laughed really hard. But then I started to think, does it make sense for IKEA? Will this wrongfully play with their brand reputation? Marketing should adapt to the current world events, but should it get mixed up with politics? I am an apologist of Marketing and Humour coming together, but it has to make sense. I'm not sure it does. It is interesting to wonder about it. Now, we must see if the supporters of our previous government feel attacked and begin to buy furniture at JYSK instead. (Probably will never happen as IKEA is too strong of a brand) #ikea #portugal #politicaladvertising

“Joss Paper” Cake 🍰 🍰IKEA Taiwan introduced a joss paper-like cake ahead of the Chinese Hungry Ghost Festival. 🧐Mixed reactions from customers of course. 💡Some love it for its creativity. Some frowned. 🎬Brand activations like this always cut both ways. Haters gonna hate. But others will probably laugh it off. Marketers know this very well. They can’t satisfy everyone. 🎨Looking at the design of this cake and the captions, it’s not hard to relate to incense paper - not an auspicious thing to most living Asians except for the late. ❓Controversial campaigns like this is not uncommon. What intrigues me is the reactions of the customers. Taking into account cultural nuances, are they getting more open-minded? Or still frowned at the slightest inappropriateness? 🧐This is critical for marketers cos it guides future directions of brand campaigns. Thoughts? >>>>>>>>>> Till the next one. IKEA Taiwan has copped flak for introducing a cake designed to resemble joss paper ahead of the Chinese #HungryGhostFestival. According to IKEA Taiwan’s Instagram and #Facebook pages, the brand names the limited-edition layered cake as the “golden cake” (#金紙蛋糕), with its appearance resembling traditional Chinese #JossPaper - the sheets of paper commonly used as burnt offerings in Chinese ancestral worship rituals. The post has garnered mixed reactions from netizens, as media intelligence CARMA saw over 200 mentions related to #IKEATaiwan's new product over the past 10 days. Approximately 31.9% of the mentions were positive, while 6.1% were negative. A large group of netizens indicated that, although the cake does not look appetising, it is creative and humourous, with some joking that it pays homage to Taiwanese culture, said CARMA’s HK GM Charles Cheung. "Conversely, some criticism arose from those who view the product as disrespectful to the deceased." #SocialMedia

Sometimes, one is forced to use social media to make giants do what is needed, which is what I hope. In 30 years, we have had experience with IKEA Germany, IKEA China, IKEA Malaysia, and now IKEA Croatia. Ordering a lot for a lot of money through all these years, I have always been satisfied with the quality and especially with the service. However, what we have experienced so far with IKEA Croatia is simply a nightmare. The delivery and installation have been very unprofessional, and agreements are not honored at all. Ordering 3 kitchen has been a real horror - with months of delays for delivery, months of delays for installation, wrong deliveries, and more. Initially, I thought we were in a candid camera TV show, then I thought it was a one-time exemption. Now, it's evident that IKEA Croatia has a massive management and customer service problem. Perhaps many complain but don't know how to achieve real improvement. Well, maybe social media helps. #IKEA #CustomerService #Quality #Improvement #IKEACroatia #SocialMedia

An Ikea Hospitality observation Today I went to an Ikea for the first time in my life and two observations: 1. The store is designed like a maze which becomes a puzzle like game once you enter the maze. 2. The food court is on a whole different concept. You take the food freely and then do retail style billing on it. As a hospitality person this food retail thing is so out of my understanding. I mean take Spencer's retail that I know, but ikea is doing something beyond retail. There's hospitality ,there's retail , then there's what Ikea is doing. #IKEA IKEA

Cannes: From Star-Studded Screens to Spreadsheet Streams 🎬➡️📊 Ah, Cannes, the once-exclusive playground for the movie gods, where mere mortals like us could only dream of rubbing shoulders with the stars. 🌟 But lo and behold, in 2023, the Government of India decided to shake things up. They sent a brigade of digital wizards to a side-show in Cannes, because why should film buffs have all the fun? 🤷♂️ For a brief, shining moment, the reels took a backseat as our feeds filled with the real deal. Market researchers turned the French Riviera into their personal office, complete with coffee runs and conference calls. ☕📞 And just like that, Cannes became less about ‘who are you wearing’ and more about ‘what are your metrics.’ Now, we’re all glued to our screens, not for the movie premieres, but for the LinkedIn updates that keep on giving. 📲 India’s masterstroke has turned the festival’s ‘work hard, play hard’ mantra into ‘all work, no play makes Jack a data-driven boy.’ So, hats off to India for turning Cannes into the ultimate networking event—minus the network parties. 🎉 #Cannes2024 #DigitalTakeover #SpreadsheetFiesta #AllWorkNoPlay
We're back from another great year at #CannesLions. Here's what our Group Chief Executive, Chris Jansen, had to say: "A highlight for me was presenting the Kantar #BrandBlueprintAward for the Most Meaningfully Different Brand to Fredrik Engman from IKEA. The Brand Blueprint Awards celebrate quantifiable marketing excellence and recognise those who are delivering meaningful and different marketing that grows their brand and delivers to their bottom line. We celebrated IKEA’s excellence because they are experts at amplifying these qualities, especially when it comes to making decisions that influence business outcomes. IKEA is affordable yet provides quality, is accessible and memorable. It continues to reach new people, opening 71 new stores in the past year. Its smaller stores are bringing IKEA to urban customers, helping people facing cost-of-living challenges, something it’s also tackling through its ‘Do Try This At Home’ campaign. A fantastic winner!"
