They take a look at recent popular films, art collections, travel destinations, technologies, and trends. They even take the economy into account! At AP, we love looking to the future while staying anchored to our roots. Remastering watch models from our heritage allows us to push the boundaries of what was once considered unthinkable or unfeasible. Inspired by the #Brutalist movement, #Reference5159 defied all codes of classical watchmaking with its asymmetrical, rectangular case when launched in 1960. Paying tribute to our history while embracing forward-thinking technology, our watchmakers have breathed new life into this vintage piece with the [RE]Master02 Selfwinding.  Shadowing our watchmakers over the past months, I have been awestruck by how much trial and error, thinking, and REthinking goes into the design and manufacturing process. The complexity of the parted dial alone – composed of 12 individually-cut brass triangles – is testament to this. One of the biggest challenges for our watchmakers was getting the sapphire crystal to fit the case. It took our teams two years of intensive R&D to develop the final shape, cut and sculpt a single piece of sapphire crystal while ensuring that it would meet our standards for both quality and water resistance. The larger case has also been reimagined in our new material #sandgold, which subtly changes colour in the light, just like sand dunes in the sun. ~ Brad Pitt, Penélope Cruz & Chanel ~ The high-profile Chanel advertising campaign, with Brad Pitt and Penélope Cruz, seems like sending two messages: Chanel is different from its competitors and the strong long-term value of its classic flap bag... justifying Chanel's increased bag prices in March 2024. The Chanel Classic flap bag prices increased by 6% to 8% again this year with all Classic Flap bags now retailing for more than USD10,000. This move makes Chanel, once ranked in-between Louis Vuitton and Hermès in terms of prices, now almost on the same level as its competitor Hermes. At least this is how some bag lovers feel.
