International Plastic Bag Free Day is a great reminder of the impact we can make by reducing single-use plastics in the hospitality industry. Hotels and vacation rentals play a major role in this global effort, and many are already making progress towards more sustainable practices. Switching to alternatives like cloth or paper bags can greatly reduce plastic waste. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, over 100 billion plastic bags are used in the U.S. each year, with a significant portion ending up in oceans and landfills. By opting for reusable or biodegradable options, hotels and vacation rentals can enhance their green reputation and attract guests who value eco-friendly practices. Guests today are increasingly aware of environmental issues and appreciate businesses that align with their values. This shift towards sustainability can lead to greater guest satisfaction and loyalty. #HospitalityIndustry #Sustainability #PlasticFree #EcoFriendly #GreenHotels #VacationRentals #GuestExperience #TravelTrends #EnvironmentalImpact

I recently visited the Sea Life London Aquarium and stepped into tourist territory for the day… I was particularly interested in how the venue educated the public on marine conservation efforts. During the free flow walk through, I soon came across simple messaging, to minimise plastic waste… However, there were vending machines throughout, fully stocked with plastic drinks bottles, which seemed to contradict the call to reduce plastic waste 🤔. Although, this sounds like a post better suited to Tripadvisor, it made me reflect on the importance of leading by example. 👉In order to influence others to engage with efforts to minimise environmental impact, the influencer and educator should practice what they preach. It is a real shame that messaging can get lost, when actions don’t marry up… This made me reflect on my own actions at home and in the workplace, and how these could be perceived. In the drive to reduce my own environmental impact, do I choose the least negative options available to me? The honest answer is, No… can I do more…. Yes… And do we hold ourselves to a account on a regular basis and check in on our own pledges? (This goes for everything)… I will check back on this post in a months time, to see if I have consistently made some simple changes…. 👉Conciously swap the 🚗 for the 🚆 or 🚶. 👉Batch 🧑🍳 cook to save energy and reduce food waste. 👉Visit my local refill store to fill up on eco friendly bodywash and detergents, reducing plastic waste, carbon and reducing consumption of man made chemicals. 👉Utilise the de-humidifier water for a toilet flush or to water house plants. 🪴 👉Stop ordering coffees or purchasing water on the go. At all times carry my reusable cup and water bottle. Reducing waste… Now I do the above, but not consistently… through consistency a habit will be formed… #ESG #environment #sealife #environmental #conservation #sustainability #leadership #marinelife #maritime #marineconservation #plasticpollution #greenskills #influence #communication #greenwash #bluewash #personalchoice
