Our revolutionary Green Travel Pledge carbon rail data now includes over 40,000 business routes (over 80,000 return business journeys) across Britain, allowing comparisons between rail emissions data for nearly every station-to-station business journey in the country. This expanded dataset incorporates factors such as train occupancy, fuel type, exact journey distance, and more, providing reliable carbon emission data for all direct rail journeys across Britain. These insights enable business travellers and businesses to understand the environmental impact of their travel and make more sustainable choices. Find out more at https://lnkd.in/eXqTbCiF A big thanks also to our project partners 3Squared Ltd, Thrust Carbon, and Black Box Partnerships as well as the ongoing support from the project stakeholders we've worked with.

As one of the UK’s busiest rail networks, we provide sustainable travel choices and connect communities along our routes. We are proud custodians of a network that has the power to shape the lives of future generations. Recognising this responsibility, we are committing to reduce our carbon footprint. We are pleased to announce that our science-based targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Margareta Vutescu, our Environment and Carbon Manager says: ‘’We are delighted that our science-based carbon reduction targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets Initiative. "Trains are essential for decarbonising our economy, providing a low-carbon transport option that connects people and strengthens our communities. We already run a fully electric train fleet, but we want to go further in reducing our emissions in line with the latest climate science. By committing to net zero carbon and working to enhance our weather and climate resilience, we aim to create lasting value and a cleaner environment for our colleagues, passengers and the communities we serve’’ Our Targets: 📌 By 2029 we will reduce our operational emissions (Scope 1 & 2) by 70% compared to 2019 and we will engage with our supply chain to encourage them to develop their own science-based targets. 📌 By 2035 we will reduce our operational emissions by 90 compared to 2019. 📌 By 2050 we will achieve net zero emissions across our entire value chain. It's inspiring to see so many companies committing to science-based targets! With 5,597 companies globally and 898 in the UK already on board, every action truly counts. Encouraging more organisations to take bold steps and commit to these targets can make a significant impact. Together, we have the power to turn the tide on climate change! 🌍💪 #ClimateAction #NetZero #ScienceBasedTargets #Sustainability

Director supporting strategic growth and BD activity for the UK Community Development & Transportation teams
Some interesting food for thought in Leigh Stolworthy's latest article on bridging the gap to net zero through the decarbonisation of the way we move. Would you take on a 10-mile a day cycle commute? Can we bring developers, local authorities and transport providers together more often, to end the 'cycle path to nowhere' or lack of connectivity to allow greater combining of modes? All things we are looking to debate through our partnership with Interchange over coming months. https://lnkd.in/expy-MBA

Reading about the recent decision to expand London City Airport has raised some questions for me about the UK's commitment to reducing carbon emissions, including the impact this will have on air pollution. With analysis showing that more than half of last year’s journeys from the airport could have been made by train in six hours or less, it's hard to see how this decision aligns with a serious sustainability strategy. While sectors like energy and transportation are making strides in emissions reductions, global air travel emissions are rising and therefore, expanding airports sends a conflicting message when it comes to aligning with a long-term sustainability strategy. I understand that air travel is essential for many businesses and am currently working with an organisation where it plays a crucial role. However, they mitigate this activity with a policy that prohibits flights when a destination can be reached by train in six hours or less, balancing operational needs with sustainability goals. I'd love to hear from others on this topic. If your business relies on air travel, what steps are you taking to reduce its environmental impact? And, how do you think we should be tackling this issue? #Sustainability #Aviation #CarbonReduction #BusinessTravel #NetZero
